Offering some of the best views around of Lake James, The Waterman is a stunning lakefront home that allows you to enjoy those views from the massive floor-to-ceiling windows while cozied up in the living room, while lounging on the screened porch, balcony, and patio, or while gathered around the outdoor fire pit. This spacious 5-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home boasts three separate king-sized bedrooms, including the main level master with a gas fireplace, a fourth bedroom with two full-size beds, and a fifth bedroom with a full-size bunk bed. It also has a lower-level den area with a TV and pool table (fireplace not usable). In addition to the outdoor areas mentioned above, you'll also find a hot tub, a private dock, and a gas grill to enjoy during your lake vacation! Located just 45 minutes from Asheville in Nebo, this spacious and upscale lakefront home is the perfect place to get away and enjoy everything the Lake James area has to offer.

Ideally located near Lake James State Park, you can spend your days exploring nearby hiking trails like the Fonta Flora Loop, Overmountain Victory, or the Holly Discovery (complete with child-friendly activities). If you don't mind a bit of a drive, you can visit another state park nearby, South Mountains, for a more challenging hike like Chestnut Knob or a beautiful waterfall hike like High Shoal Falls before grabbing a refreshing craft beer at Fonta Flora's open-air brewery at Whippoorwill Farm a mere 5 minutes from the home. Also located in Nebo is the award-winning South Creek Winery which welcomes pets and hosts numerous events throughout the year.

Take a scenic 20-minute drive to reach the quaint small town of Marion where you can grab another cold one at Mica Town Brewing Company, fresh seafood & cocktails at Crabby Abby's Bar and Grille, or a handcrafted dish paired with the NC staple, Cheerwine, at McDowell Local. Before returning to your home away from home, shop around at the Lake James Antique Mall, or take another 30-minute drive to the "Simply Charming" town of Morganton where you can find even more shops, regional museums, and art galleries where you can pick up a souvenir to remind you of your time in the mountains. You'll also find even more delicious dining and drink options in Morganton like Root and Vine, Treat, Catawba Brewing Company, and the original Fonta Flora taproom.

Please Note: This home is pet-friendly with an additional fee. This home is lakefront and offers its own private dock on Lake James to enjoy. While the home offers access to Lake James, it does NOT offer access to Camp Lake James amenities. The boat and jet skis permanently docked are NOT available to renters. Only the left side of the dock (left slip and outside) is available to renters. For boat rentals, contact the Lake James Neighborhood Store (3.2 miles away) or Noah's Landing (9.2 miles away).

A Very Nice Visit

Overall

We had a nice family visit and the Waterman was a great house for families such as ours. We had planned to bring the grandparents. They ended up not being able to come, but it is probably better they didn't. Access around the the outside of the house is not for folks who have trouble on uneven surfaces. Nevertheless, we had a blast for our first visit to Lake James.

Exceptional place to stay for the views, space, and mountain feel

Overall

We appreciated that we were able to arrive early and the place was in great shape (clean). It was vary spacious and suited the needs of our big group. The area and views were exactly as expected, exceptional. We were not aware that a new well was installed just before we arrived and the water smelled and tasted like chorine for most of the week, we were vary disappointed and had to use bottled water for drinking. We also lost power to our room on the lower level the last night (possible circuit breaker). Lastly the deck rails are in bad shape and should be replaced as soon as possible (vary weathered), someone will get hurt if they lean on them. For the inconveniences noted above; We would recommend this place to stay.

The Waterman was a perfect location at Lake James for us. We were able to use our boat and all of the other amenities provided. We would definitely rent this home again!

The Waterman was beautiful, and the location was great! The house had everything we needed and is large and spacious. We rented a boat at the Lake James Marina and the house is located close to the marina, which made the process easy to pick-up and return the boat. The house is centralized on the lake and perfect for exploring the lake by boat.

This house is beautiful and comfortable. It is spacious and has all the amenities that our family of four and two guest needed. We enjoyed relaxing on the dock and swimming in deep water. The location is great with easy access to the marina, state park, trails, and of course, a brewery. We will definitely consider staying again at The Waterman of Lake James.

Overall

Beautiful house, so pretty and peaceful. Large enough that we all had our own space, but we could also be together. This home truly had everything you could want. Also, they allowed us to check in early. We arrived almost an hour early, so that was quite helpful. The night around the fire outside was probably my favorite time. Gorgeous outside with the water view and even wild flowers.

We had a wonderful time at the waterman for a family get together. The property is exquisite and the ease of getting to the water and spending time on the dock was wonderful for our family. It was a very comfortable place for us to gather. We couldn't recommend the property more highly.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

The Waterman is located on Lake James. This home is approximately 25 minutes to Marion, 30 minutes to Morganton, 45 minutes to Black Mountain, and an hour to Asheville, and 1 hour and 15 minutes to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

The Waterman on Lake James is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

The Waterman on Lake James has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION & WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD PROVIDED?

The Waterman on Lake James has an indoor wood-burning fireplace, a gas fireplace in the primary bedroom, and an outdoor fire pit. Gas logs are not in operation May through September due to the warmer summer months.

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses may have a small leftover supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground.

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at The Waterman on Lake James. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
