This perfect mountain hideaway provides hours of relaxation and fun! A beautiful winding stone pathway passes the garden ponds and brings you to the relaxing front porch. As you enter the cabin, you are at peace with the world! The hand-hewn logs and many windows bring the warmth of nature inside. The great room centers around the kitchen and wood-burning stone fireplace, truly the heart of the log home. Outside, the swing and rocking chairs are the perfect spots to enjoy the private and serene woodland setting.

The lower level features a spectacular antique pine bar with a pool table and dartboard. Double doors lead outside to the secluded hot tub and fire pit. The second stone patio has an outdoor pizza oven and fire pit with a nearby picnic table and horseshoes. There is also a park-style charcoal grill to whip up your favorites. Many fruit trees, berry bushes, grapevines, and an organic garden are available for the "pickins." The cabin also has an outdoor hanging queen bed that's perfect for that afternoon nap. Off the bar is the "cork room" with a queen-sized bed and full bath.

Upstairs, you'll find the primary bedroom with a king bed and en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and claw-foot soaking tub. From the king bed, morning views of the mist in the distant mountains are spectacular. There is a TV and a telescope for stargazing. There is an additional bedroom upstairs with two twin beds and a large TV that is open to the living area below. The upper deck with two rocking chairs is an ideal spot for morning coffee. The outdoor queen-sized hanging bed is just right for afternoon naps. 

Located within the private community of Gateway Mountain in Old Fort, you'll have exclusive access to the waterfall park and Lake George access. Serenity Cabin is an easy 3-minute drive to Lake George, where you can leisurely swim, canoe, fish, or tube from Serenity Cabin's private dock where excellent "catch and release" fishing is allowed on this beautiful 7-acre community lake. Serenity is only a short hike to the neighborhood waterfall, one of the best in western North Carolina. You're also 20 minutes to Catawba Falls. Make sure you stop by GoGo's in Old Fort for delicious homemade cinnamon rolls. Serenity Cabin is approximately 10-15 minutes from Old Fort and 30-35 minutes from the charming towns of Black Mountain and Marion.

You'll love exploring the local shops, restaurants, and breweries in downtown Marion. If you're looking to enjoy some nightlife, check out Marion's Mica Town Brewing Company, Refinery 13 Taproom, and Spillway Bridge & Co. Black Mountain also boasts 3 local breweries: Pisgah Brewing, Lookout Brewing, and Black Mountain Brewing, along with incredible restaurants like Foothills Butcher Bar, Louise's Kitchen, and Black Mountain Bistro. Downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure are all within a 45-minute drive.

Please Note: Greybeard homes are located near Pisgah National Forest. Ladybugs and Kudzu Beetles may be seen in our area in the fall and winter months, and it is not uncommon for them to find their way into homes to escape the cooler weather from time to time. They are not poisonous and cannot be exterminated. This home has a private floating dock on Lake George, but you will need to bring your own canoe, kayak, or float to enjoy the lake. 

During the colder winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snow plow operations are possible within the development. From December through March, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles. We also recommend travel insurance for those staying in the Gateway Mountain development during the winter months. No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community.

The Serenity Cabin name says it all! This home was cozy, and comfortable; and had all of the amenities we needed to make our vacation awesome. The views from the decks were amazing, listening to the sounds of nature and viewing wildlife was so much fun! Enjoying the hot tub and playing board games in the evenings were definitely highlights for us. The staff members were always available to answer questions and assist with anything we needed. I would recommend this property to anyone and we plan to come back again!

Uncomfortable Cabin

We didn’t stay the last night because the cabin was set up in a very uncomfortable weird fashion. I don’t usually bother reviewing, but the price we were charged simply doesn’t fit well with the cabin. One poorly lit broken shower, the only room with privacy on the bottom floor next to the pool table, cramped weirdly lit main area. This cabin seems to have been designed by a 10 year old. Plus there were fairly dangerous issues with the balcony not being connected at all in one spot. There is an awful lot to complain about but why bother? I’m guessing you won’t post this comment because I didn’t see any negative reviews about this place and I’m sure you have heard plenty of them.

I am pleased to share that the owners have enclosed the primary bedroom upstairs to create more privacy for guests, built a brand-new shower in the primary bathroom upstairs, and secured the railing on the porch. They are also moving the keypad from the basement to the main level for easier entry. Regarding negative reviews, the majority of the ratings we receive for this home are 5 stars, and the handful of 3 and 4-star reviews that have come through are visible on our website. We do everything we can to present an accurate picture of our homes so guests avoid disappointment upon arrival and have their expectations met or exceeded. We're sorry that you had a negative experience, and we hope that you'll consider staying with us again so we can find the perfect vacation rental for you.

We had a fantastic time celebrating my and my pups birthdays. Upon arriving we discovered the 8 ball was missing and they were quick to respond and bring us one the next day. The cabin is awesome! We got to get in the hot tub multiple times, it's a little dated but still did the job. (Stronger jets would have been nicer but not a deal breaker). We had a fire in the wood burning fireplace every day, one of the days it rained the whole day so we had a fire the entire day! The house was clean and well taken care of. The views are amazing!! Kitchen is well stocked except no pot holders!!! Definitely need to bring a few pot holders if you plan to cook. (Unless they decide to supply them) also maybe bring an extra kitchen towel or two. We cooked all of our meals there so a fully stocked kitchen was a must. The directions from the rental agency to the cabin are a bit hard to follow, just make sure you pay very close attention! We got lost a few times but we were able to find it eventually....it was also raining hard so that was an issue. There is only a tub in the upstairs bathroom and the only shower is all the way downstairs (3 floors). Downstairs is a little chilly as the wood burning stove was out of order. With all of these things, still give this place a 5 star! Very relaxing and beautiful property. The waterfall on the mountain was amazing, we never even saw another person on our hike. Didn't get to go to the lake because it was so wet and nasty, it's a steep walk and we didn't want to have issues coming back up. Already planning our next trip.

This was our first time booking with Grey Beard Rentals, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The communication was impeccable from the beginning. We received all needed information through one phone call and updated text and email messages. The online information about the property was correct and we encountered no surprises. The Serenity Cabin is one of the nicest places we have stayed. The cabin was clean and well-stocked with games, kitchen supplies, toiletries start-up kit, etc. We were celebrating our 23rd Wedding Anniversary, and had a congratulations card signed by all of the staff waiting on us upon arrival. We will definitely return to Old Fort and will book with Grey Beard again! One suggestion for future guests...Take note of Grey Beard's information that AWD/4WD is needed for a few properties, and is definitely needed for winter weather. If you have AWD/4WD like we do, you are all set! If not, just ask about the property. More than likely, you will be just fine.

We felt like this would have been a great cabin with a little TLC. The grill wasn't clean, nor was the pizza oven. The hammock was moldy, dry-rotted, and had a hole in it, so none of us would trust it. The Dish Network was out for the entire stay even though we reset the box. The ponds were green and could have used some attention as could the back porch area where vines are taking over. The recliner has a very loose arm and seemed like it shouldn't be trusted and the mattress on the king bed was very worn and lumpy, causing some backaches. Ultimately, the inside of the cabin was clean and the pictures were accurate. With a little attention, it would be a really amazing cabin.

This place was as good as the pictures show! Booking and arrival/departure were so easy. The remote location and spectacular views made our vacation everything that we needed. We were a tad disappointed that the path to the lake was overgrown and we were unable to access the floating dock by land. The waterfall access made up for that though!

We apologize for the issue you encountered with accessing the home's private floating dock; Since the direct walking path from the house to the dock is not regularly maintained, we instruct guests to drive to the community parking area and use the trail there to access the home's floating dock. As a direct result of your feedback, our maintenance team started shaping up the pathway down by the dock and has inquired with the owner about cutting back that path on a regular basis. While the overgrowth prevented you from enjoying the floating dock, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed the private community waterfall. We enjoyed the cabin but not everything was as advertised. We couldn't hike or canoe because the trail to the lake was overgrown and impassible. We drove to Lake George, but the canoe was unusable because it lacked seats and was full of spiders and cobwebs. The cabin itself was clean and beautiful, but the landscaping was so overgrown that it obstructed the view of the mountains. It was sad seeing such a unique cabin with such untended and decrepit landscaping.

My family and I had a great time at Serenity Lake Cabin! It's in a wonderful, peaceful location. The cabin itself is beautiful, clean, and well-appointed, with almost all the linens and kitchen supplies that you could possibly need, and there's also a small selection of books, DVDs and games. The pool table and hot tub were nice amenities too. Overall it's a great place to stay, whether you're settling in to spend quality time with family, or touring around the area's attractions. We're definitely planning on coming back!

We loved how secluded the cabin felt, and the cabin itself was beautiful. There are plenty of things to do within the community, visiting the ponds, and waterfall. We were able to make a homemade pizza in the pizza oven, enjoyed the hot tub, eating breakfast on the upper porch while taking in a breathtaking view, and I could go on. It is one of our favorites, and we plan to go back for sure.

The entire cabin did not dissapoint - every level of the cabin was absolutely exactly like the pictures and even more stunning in person. The cabin was so clean and all details were attended to.

I cant say enough about this lovely home in the mountains. We absolutely loved our stay at the Serenity Lake Cabin and look forward to visiting again. We enjoyed exploring the Asheville area during the day and then returning to the peaceful and relaxing mountain retreat at night; whether it was relaxing in the well maintained hot tub, sitting around the fire pit or on the porch swing. We felt at home in this beautifully built and decorated log home. So much to do and so little time was our only complaint.

We loved the waterfall in the neighborhood. I'm so glad they specifically mentioned that you should make sure to go to the lower falls too. They truly are beautiful! We had nice evenings around the pool table and the dinner table. The kitchen is well-stocked and easy to use. We loved the owner's artwork around the house, too! The whole setting is peaceful and quiet.

Perfect for my family of 4. The location is breathtaking, plenty to do without ever having to get in the car. The cabin is well equipped with anything you would need and more. We will definitely plan on returning.

My wife and I stayed here for about 5 days to celebrate our anniversary (and isolate somewhere that wasn't our house during the pandemic), and we had a fantastic time! The hot tub is great, especially in February when it is still a bit cold outside, and the place was plenty large for 2 people to spend a ton of time. The location is great, with a short hike to some fantastic waterfalls, and the views are amazing. I can't wait to come here during the summer and see it when all of the trees get their leaves back. We absolutely recommend Serenity Lake Cabin!

We love staying here. This time, it rained a bit during our stay, but the cabin offers plenty of amenities and relaxation that it turned the rainy days into good quality family time. It was a nice weekend reset. Definitely a place we will visit again and again!

The home was tidy and secluded. Enjoyed the trails and waterfall. The cabin was close enough to some of the small towns that we could enjoy a dinner out or shopping in 40 minutes or less.

Beautiful Cabin, lots of space for our family, inside very clean! Peaceful with gorgeous views of the mountains. The canoe was a lot of fun but beware the trail to get to the canoe is difficult and unsafe, we slipped multiple times.

We loved our week at the charming cabin! The hanging bed was lovely for afternoon naps, and the king bed in the loft allowed for comfy sleep and gorgeous views of the stars and the mountains. The hot tub, equipped kitchen, and ample outdoor space all allowed us to have a relaxing week.

We spent a week at the cabin to get some much needed R & R and natural social distancing. We were the first to stay there since the pandemic and Susan from Greybeard helped us set up our trip. She was super helpful and very sweet! We enjoyed all of the amenities of the cabin and surrounding area. We really enjoyed the lake and waterfalls. We loved sitting on the top deck and enjoying the beautiful views and sounds of nature. We even had a visit from a young black bear. He stuck around long enough for a photo op and then went back into the woods. We really enjoyed our trip and hope to make another in the fall!

It has all the things you need for a perfect mountain getaway! The hot tub and close proximity to the lake was a great addition to our stay. The waterfalls within the community was a great place to visit and go for a short hike. I would highly recommend this place!

If you are looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place. Cell phone service was spotty, but that is to be expected when going to the mountains. The house has everything you need to enjoy your stay.

Loved the secluded setting for the Serenity Lake Cabin. It was so peaceful and beautiful. Enjoyed hiking to the waterfall and just sitting on all the different porches and taking in the view.

Wished the upstairs bedroom had a little more privacy and a shower. If we traveled with family again, we would probably look for a different house only for that reason, but might be willing to suffer through it again as we absolutely loved everything else about this house! Would love to see it in other seasons - when more of the berries were ready to eat and especially in the fall.

My wife and I visited the Serenity Lake cabin for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! A beautiful house in a beautiful location where we saw one other car drive by in the week we were there. We really enjoyed the seclusion and the house was in amazing shape. High recommend!

Gorgeous cabin with spectacular views. We stayed here for an anniversary weekend. The decks with rocking chairs and swinging bed were amazing. The lake was pretty but the waterfall was spectacular!

Beautiful, secluded cabin with short drive to private lake and a gorgeous waterfall! We kept busy either outside playing horseshoes, or inside playing darts or billiards. It was clean, spacious, and every view was fabulous!

We spent a week in this wonderful cabin. The views are amazing from every window. We also enjoyed playing pool in the evenings and relaxing in the hot tub. The king size bed was so comfortable. Best sleep I've gotten in years. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone.

Our stay was fantastic. The cabin is beautiful and the owners have done a great job setting families up for a wonderful stay. However, when the rental company (Greybeard) sends out the directions, you will need to use them. GPS doesn't pick up the location to get the code and could take you down a dirt road. Other than that, the stay went very, very well.

This is our second stay here. Its very convenient to Black Mountain, Asheville and Lake Lure. This cabin is so homey. Its so peaceful that you dont even realize there are other houses nearby. You cant see any of them, but you may hear a dog barking or children playing. We really only heard this once the whole time we were there. The cabin is well stocked with just about everything you would need. We liked grilling there once or twice, not wanting to drive up the unfamiliar roads at night. The road is a little winding, but not a scary drive at all. We saw lots of wild turkeys along the way. One thing we did miss this trip was the lack of a TV on the main floor. In the past weve listened to the TV while preparing dinner or watched a football game at night. Its still the perfect place for usdefinitely our happy place!

Serenity is tucked away in the Gateway Mountain neighborhood. The homes are so far apart that you will feel like you have the place to yourself. There is a pond with canoe and a waterfall hike right within the neighborhood. Hot tub, pool table, fire pits, porches will make you just want to stay and relax in the cabin. We enjoyed excursions to Chimney Rock, Black Mountain and Asheville. Wonderful trip!

Out of this world! Perfect place to leave your cares behind, relax, play, watch the night sky, always a place to get away from everyone with you, become one with nature, no neighbors, everything there that you needed, just supply food! Oh, cell phones wouldn't work from there...I liked that!

Excellent experience with Greybeard Rentals; responsive, professional and I like the app and other timely communication and instructions via email. We stayed at the Serenity Lake Cabin in March 2017 - what a beautiful place in a secluded/gated community! We enjoyed spending time on Lake George on the canoe and also seeing the nearby waterfall. The cabin had so many cool touches; the hanging outdoor bed, hammocks, amazing decks on both levels, fire pits, hot tub, fireplace & more. The view from every side of the house was spectacular. Watching the sunset over the mountains - amazing. We had such a wonderful family trip here. We took day trips to Asheville, Lake James and Chimney Rock. Love driving around the backwoods of Western North Carolina! We will be back to rent again with you. Thank you!

This is a beautiful, serene, very secluded cabin about a 10-minute curvy (but not scary) drive up the mountain. It is nicely decorated. I loved having a bathroom on every level. The view gets better with each floor that you climb. The fall views are stunning! We enjoyed sitting on the deck with a glass of wine or two and grilling at night. There's even a garden where you can get some of your ingredients.

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Serenity Lake Cabin is located in Old Fort. This home is approximately 30 minutes to Black Mountain, 40 minutes to Marion, and approximately 50 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Serenity Lake Cabin is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Serenity Lake Cabin is located in a gated community. You must go to our Old Fort Office at 243 Catawba Ave S to pick up your gate card. Driving directions to our Old Fort Office, along with access instructions will be sent out via email. Once you have picked up your gate card, you can proceed to the house. Please do not rely on GPS. We will provide you with driving directions to Serenity Lake Cabin from our Old Fort Office. 

Serenity Lake Cabin has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Serenity Lake Cabin has a wood burning fireplace and fire pit for guests to use. Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. 

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Serenity Lake Cabin. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
