Fall asleep to the music of Mackey Creek and awaken to a natural paradise! New stone cottage lodged in a secluded setting between pristine, rushing creek and mountainside, with the exquisite beamed interior of white pine, and locally sourced Linville blend stone and granite exterior. Heart pine floors on the main level and wool carpet in the loft. Marvin windows. Four skylights. Combination mountain cabin and Swedish decor. Architecturally exceptional in an extraordinary setting. Nestled near the Pisgah National Forest, the owners' property consists of 7 heavily wooded acres on the house side of Mackey Creek. The owners' back property line runs just below the back side of the ridge line hundreds of feet above the house. The front property line runs along the midpoint of the stream. The owners do not own the bridge over the creek.

About 3 miles by car from Curtis Creek Road leading to US Forest Service's Curtis Creek Campground and about 8 miles by car from the main trailhead for Mackey Mt. and Chesnutwood Mt. on Curtis Creek Road. Scenic access to the Blue Ridge Parkway (about a 15-mile drive from US 70 intersection with Curtis Creek Road) via Curtis Creek Road (steep, winding, mostly gravel, and open only from approximately April to November), which T's into US 70 about 3 miles W of the Kibbin; easy access to Parkway from East Asheville (35-minute drive) or Linville (45-minute drive). Linville Caverns and Linville Falls are a scenic 30-minute drive from the house.

The Biltmore Estate is within a half-hour drive, downtown Asheville within a 35-minute drive, and downtown Black Mountain within a 25-minute drive. Downtown Marion with its annual, nationally publicized Bigfoot Festival (media said that it drew 45,000 people in 2019) every September, and its Mountain Glory Festival every October, is within a 15-minute drive. Of interesting note, Kibbin was featured in the 2018 edition of "Cabin Living: Discovering The Simple American Getaway." A copy of the book is at the home for your enjoyment.

Charming home, amazing location!

This home is beautiful, spacious, and charming. The architecture is really unique and almost “antique”, yet the home still has all the modern amenities needed. We loved that you could hear the creek when sitting on the covered patio. That was our favorite part of the house! The sound of the creek was so calming and scenic. The two biggest bummers were the lack of microwave and the dishwasher not working. For guests wanting to eat out during their stay, this may not be an issue, but it was an inconvenience to us since we cooked here! Other than that, the staff, housekeeping, and maintenance teams were fantastic and really responsive to questions and needs. The location is excellent! The house is equidistant from hiking and outdoor activities as well as downtown Asheville. We got the best of both worlds without having to stay somewhere noisy and crowded! Thank you thank you!!!

What a beautiful home! It was perfect for our vacation with adult kids, giving everyone their space with a beautiful living area and porch for sharing time together. The location was amazing, easy drive to Old Fort and Black Mountain, easy access to the highway and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We loved hiking in the area, and spent a day in Asheville visiting the Biltmore. Graybeard Rental was very responsive when we had questions, and check in/out was super simple. Can't wait to visit this gorgeous home again!

This house - wow. The location, setting, floorplan and space all make it one of the best vacation rentals we've ever rented. Great room was perfect for socializing/reconnecting with friends and we loved the outdoor fireplace as well. Only complaints were that there was no TV in the great room and a few lightbulbs needed replacing. Otherwise, just perfection.

Three couples celebrated a 75th birthday of one of us. It was a surprise for him. Was it ever a surprise, to him and the rest of us. The house was beyond our expectations. Every single thing we needed was available. The location is excellent, secluded but a short distance to anything we would need.
The stream was heavenly running right by the house. The trout farm about 15 miles up the road was a very big hit. After fishing we grilled our trout for dinner that night. It gets no fresher than that. The weather forecast before we came stated rain every day. Didn't happen. We had a 15-minute sprinkle one day and a "mountain rain", which we consider medium rain with no storm
Saturday night before we left on Sunday. It doesn't get any better than that.
If there is anything that needs to be addressed, it would be a new, larger grill. That grill has seen it's best days long ago.
We left one of our cars in front of the house, which we knew in advance not to do, but in all the excitement forget to move it, and were reminded by a neighbor that it had to be moved. We did so immediately.
We will be back. The place is magnificent.

Thoroughly enjoyed our family vacation (4 adults, 2 kids) at the Kibbin cabin! We appreciated the secluded location and being able to enjoy the rural delights of Old Fort, NC. We highly recommend Biscuit Head for food, Black Mountain for shopping, and Looking Glass waterfall and Sliding Rock for fun.

Everything about the cabin was exactly what we were looking for. The living area and kitchen were well appointed and inviting. The bedrooms were comfortable. And the location on the creek, with the porch and the fire pit, was perfect.

The Kibbin is beautifully situated. The kids had a wonderful time playing in the creek and roasting marshmallows. It has ample room for everyone and was well appointed for basic meal prep and cooking. The porch fireplace was a family favorite place to spend evening hours, and the surrounding wooded mountains were gorgeous. Lots of birds and fireflies! We hope to return!

Absolutely perfect getaway house for a girl's weekend. Loved that there were essentially 3 stories and how spread out we were. The location was perfect. Only 15 minutes from Black Mountain and only about 25 min from DT Asheville. Black Mountain boasts some really great restaurants and we had the pleasure of eating at Milton's!! Absolutely delicious!! We even got to see some snow on our last day!! Would definitely book this house again.

We had such a great weekend! The house and property has such great character. We were extremely comfortable and enjoyed the wood burning fireplace. The beds were comfortable and we didn't even notice that there wasn't a TV in the living area. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans and dishes. We cooked many delicious meals here and enjoyed our time.

Wonderful stay at a quiet cabin in the woods. Not far from Black Mountain which was a great places to get out and dine, if needed. Cabin was clean, cozy and peaceful.

This is a quaint cabin with a unique history (displays in the cabin). The side porch was especially nice with an outdoor fireplace and the sounds of the babbling brook.

The photos do not do this magical place justice! The cabin is expertly designed and has a delightful historyfeatured in Cabin Living Magazine! From the warm wood architecture to the plush bedding and creekside sounds, this is a dream rental. It's listed as a 3 bedroom but it's really 5! So much space on three floors and the kitchen is fully stocked. My favorite indulgence was the huge walk-in shower in the master bedrooma great after a long day of hiking. The house also has an EXTENSIVE library of local hiking guides and pretty much every book written about the North Carolina mountains. I wish I would have had more time to just sit and read. Things to know: there is no cell service, but good WiFi, and the house is on a narrow, one-lane gravel road. We hope to return! It was such a beautiful home!

Beautiful cabin on the river. We had such a great time at this cabin. We had 3 couples stay for the weekend. Each couple had their own bedroom and bathroom on their own level. We love to cook and the kitchen is definitely a \"Cook's Kitchen\". Great selection of books too!! Would love to spend more time at this cabin. Hope to come back. Thanks!!

The Kibbin is a very unique property right on a creek, perfect for the kids to play in! Close by to many waterfall hikes. We felt right at home at The Kibbin, which was nicely furnished with everything you need. The outdoor fireplace on the deck was amazing for a week that rained quite a bit as we could still enjoy an evening fire.

Look around the Kibbin and be amazed at the effort, the thoughtfulness, the detail of thought put into every aspect of this house. The house history alone is awesome. A true hidden gem in the mountains. Secluded location but still close to everything. Perfect for visiting Linville, Mount Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock, Asheville and Brevard. Stream flows right outside the house and you can listen to it all night with the windows open. Only negative, there is *no microwave* in the house. Please owners, get one, put it in the closet just to give us an option. It is a privilege to be a repeat guest here and words and pictures can't do this place justice.

We had an overall great experience. There were only two slight issues that we had with the property. The Wifi connection was spotty at best. We had the reset the power multiple times to get it to work properly. Also it was not clear where the outside trash cans were located after searching the house extensively we were not able to locate. Otherwise, we would happily stay at this beautiful property again! Creek was a plus and the highlight of the vacation with the kids being able to tube in the creek, especially after the rain!

We had a wonderful relaxing time at the Kibbin. Beautiful home, wonderful landscape surrounding, easy check in and check out process. The home as a little history too! Home had all the amenities we needed and more. Great place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Far enough off the beaten path but close enough for a quick drive to Old Fort, Black Mountain and Marion. The house is also close enough to go exploring nearby Linville Gorge and Mount Mitchell. The home, location, and realty company exceeded our expectations. We'll definitely be back.

We rented Kibbin to attend a family wedding in the mountains. The rental agency's website photos and helpful advice led us to just the right spot. Kibbin offered both privacy and opportunities for our family to come together! We enjoyed a morning fire in the outside fireplace with our coffee, and the stream provided just the right amount of soothing sound. Our family hiked in the woods, and also went to Chimney Rock. We visited nearby Biltmore, and the Asheville area. Leaving the heat and humidity of the deep South for a beautiful autumn week in the mountains will be long remembered.

Kibbin is a beautiful home. It was exactly as described and exactly what you see. My family, 6 adults 3 young children all very much enjoyed the house and location. The layout of the house worked wonderful for us , with bedrooms on each of the 3 floors. The bedding and linens were very nice. All of the furnishings and decor were was very nice. Everything was clean and well maintained! We went tubing in the creek in front of the house, visited Black Mtn. for shopping and dinner. We went to the \" gem mines\" in Little Switzerland one day and had lunch. We really enjoyed our visit, and we will go back! Greybeard Rentals were amazing , friendly and helpful to work with. My only complaint is that I don't own Kibbin!!

Was great for our family.Everyone had their own floor and bath , kids had their own room. They played in the creek. Great get was a very good experience for all.

Stayed at the Kibbin in August with my family of 5 (3 little kids) and our friends (family of 4). It was great! Space for everyone! The house is beautiful and kept very clean. We really enjoyed it.

The house was great! Pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. We were two old friends meeting to pick up our children from a nearby summer camp, who decided to make a long weekend of it with our children. The beds were comfortable, sheets and towels were fine, fire pit was great for roasting marshmallows. The kids played in the creek everyday. We couldn't have had a better time.

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Kibbin on Mackey Creek is located in Old Fort. This home is approximately 20 minutes to Black Mountain and Marion, and approximately 40 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Kibbin on Mackey Creek is not “pet friendly”. Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will receive check-in instructions prior to your arrival with driving directions and key access information. You do not need to stop by our office to pick up your keys. You will go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit.

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Kibbin on Mackey Creek. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
