Perched atop a mountain peak within the private, gated community of Gateway Mountain, Hummingbirds' Mountain Retreat provides ample space and modern comforts to ensure the perfect getaway for family and friends. Within driving distance of all that WNC has to offer in the way of attractions and activities, you can easily travel to town for entertainment or stay on the mountain to enjoy Gateway Mountain's exclusive amenities. As a guest in this secluded & scenic community, you'll have access to lush wooded forests, gorgeous waterfalls, and stunning mountaintop vistas along with two small lakes and a trout pond for catch-and-release fishing (no license required). This nature-filled haven is teeming with plant life and wildlife that you can enjoy firsthand at your leisure.

Upon entering this contemporary haven, you'll immediately be greeted by the breathtaking mountain views from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room. In the morning, sip your coffee while watching the sunrise in one of the rocking chairs on the deck before taking advantage of the home office complete with a desk, ergonomic chair, and 2 monitors where you can work remotely. After that, whip up a delicious breakfast in the gourmet kitchen complete with stainless appliances and a gas range stove. Enjoy breakfast at the island with a mimosa while you talk through the day's activities with your group.

Conveniently located just a short 20-minute drive from the quaint town of Old Fort, grab a delicious burger and cold beer for lunch at Hillman Brewing which overlooks Mill Creek before hiking local favorite Catawba Falls, a dog-friendly trail that winds through a shady forest valley to a series of gorgeous, moss-covered cascades. After the refreshing hike, take a short 35-minute drive to reach downtown Marion where you can spend your afternoon exploring the new 310 District, an indoor shopping space that's home to restaurants, an indoor skating rink, and several retail shops. Black Mountain is also just a short 30-minute. drive away. Home to 2 local breweries, boutiques, art galleries, parks, and incredible restaurants like Que Sera & Black Mountain Bistro, there's no shortage of things to do and see in this charming town. After exploring these small towns, be sure to check out downtown Asheville and the iconic Biltmore Estate, or head south to visit Chimney Rock & Lake Lure, quaint villages filled with even more activities to enjoy.

Spend your days hiking on the various trails within Chimney Rock State Park, swim & canoe on Lake Lure's mountain beach, or stroll atop the quirky Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. Both Asheville & Chimney Rock/Lake Lure are just a 45-minute drive away! Return home in the evening to grill up dinner using the dual grill (charcoal or gas), and gather at the dining table to enjoy it together over great conversation. After dinner, cozy up around the wood stove in the living room before heading to the den downstairs to play foosball, board games, and ping pong and to stream your favorite shows on the TV. You can also stock up on your favorite snacks & drinks in the newly added mini-fridge! End your perfect day by stargazing in the hot tub or on the deck with a glass of wine.

Please Note: This home is pet-friendly with an additional fee. While the home is not fully ADA certified, there is a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the right of the home from the parking area, and there is a primary bedroom & en suite bath on the main level with a convenient walk-in shower. No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community.

Home was wonderful! Super clean. Had everything you need for a happy trip. Plenty of solitude yet close enough to town(s) for activities. The in neighborhood waterfall was spectacular! Communication with realty company was easy and reliable. LOVE being able to text and have answers back in a timely manner. Won't hesitate to stay at another Greybeard realty property again!

We had a wonderful stay at Hummingbirds's Mountain Retreat. The house was in great condition and very clean. The view of the mountains were just stunning. We planned the trip around the fall foliage, which was at peak color during our stay. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, appliances, etc. Really loved the hot tub. Check-in and check-out was super easy. The lower level game room was great, too. Also took a day trip into Asheville, which was great. Beautiful city! Had dinner at the Sierra Nevada Brewery which I highly recommend visiting. We would definitely love to return to this house in the future! Kudos!

Hummingbirds was a nicely located, remote home. We had a great time. Kitchen was nicely stocked. Maybe clean under the furniture on occasion, but other than that, it was a great place with absolutely stunning views.

We had a great vacation and the house is very clean, exactly as advertised, and would recommend to anyone. The central location made it easy to go to all the nearby towns and attractions, but at the same time comfortable to stay in and relax with plenty of act at the house or on the property. We will be back!

This house was a perfect home base for our family gathering. Plenty of space for 4 grand-girls to be together in the downstairs -- game room and all. Our chef son had all he needed in the kitchen to do his thing. And, during the chilly rainy day, grandpa stayed warm by the wood-burning stove. The house was beautifully decorated, well-kept and stocked with all we needed. And, a view to die for!

Be able to have the entire family in one location instead of spread out across hotels. Enjoyed having a kitchen to cook as a family and spend quality time together. Great view overlooking the beautiful scenery for sunset photography. Great area to play games.

This was a fantastic cabin. Spacious enough for our family of 5. Kitchen was very well equipped, games & ping pong were a hit with the kids. The view is spectacular, the fire table was a nice addition to sit out on the deck in the evenings.

The beautiful Mountain View & stars and firefly show at night from the house decks. Also all the lovely sights in the area. Gorgeous!

Overall, the entire experience was great. The house was clean, had all of the essentials, and incredible views. Greybeard was great to work with, with timely touch points and clear communication. We had multiple adults, children and dogs and could not have asked for a better suited property!

Our stay at Hummingbird Mountain Retreat was wonderful... Beautiful home with breathtaking view; also such a wonderful layout for our family of 7 plus our pup! We enjoyed relaxing on the deck after a busy day sitting next to the fire table and soaking in the tranquil view!!

The house was spotless and wonderfully appointed. The view was well worth the drive - slow and steady is the key to getting up there! Everyone was comfortable, the kids enjoyed the ping pong table, we loved being able to hike to the waterfalls and fishing in the community. When we had a concern, we had near-immediate responses. Excellent overall experience!

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Hummingbird Mountain Retreat is located within the private gated community of Gateway Mountain in Old Fort. This home is approximately 20 minutes to downtown Old Fort, 35 minutes to Black Mountain and Marion, and approximately 45 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Hummingbird Mountain Retreat is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Hummingbird Mountain Retreat is located in a gated community. You must go to our Old Fort Office at 243 Catawba Ave S to pick up your gate card. Driving directions to our Old Fort Office, along with access instructions will be sent out via email. Once you have picked up your gate card, you can proceed to the house. Please do not rely on GPS. We will provide you with driving directions to Grandview Lodge from our Old Fort Office.

Hummingbird Mountain Retreat has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION?

Hummingbird Mountain Retreat has an indoor wood stove, but it does not have an outdoor fire pit. Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses may have a small leftover supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. 

Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside, and you cannot bring your own portable fire pit. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Hummingbird Mountain Retreat. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
