Spend your getaway in a Montreat Heritage Home! Built by one of the first families to live in Montreat in 1897, Gray Rock Cottage is a lovely historic dwelling. It's the perfect retreat for a group of friends, a family, or a small youth group. Located within walking distance of the Montreat Conference Center and Lake Susan, Gray Rock Cottage may be just what you need. Like many homes built in its time, Gray Rock is not equipped with A/C and is instead cooled by its location nestled in the rhododendron groves.

In the summer, enjoy an ice-cold lemonade on the cozy screened-in porch as dusk settles in and fireflies flicker across the small backyard. Fire crackles in the firepit as you set out supplies for s'mores. Crisp white paint in the small den contrasts with the wood paneling in the other rooms and the sunny-yellow and sky-blue kitchen. A newly remodeled bathroom has a beautiful walk-in shower that adds a modern touch to the home. A great location in Montreat with an easy walk to the post office, playground, or Lake Susan. Short drive to downtown Black Mountain.

HOUSE LAYOUT: All one level. Kitchen; Living room; Full bath (walk-in shower); Bedroom with queen bed; Bedroom with queen bed; Bedroom with a double bed and twin bed; Full bath (shower/tub combo).

PLEASE NOTE: This house is not air-conditioned but typically stays cool due to its wooded surroundings. THE FIREPLACE IS NOT USABLE. Sheets and towels are NOT supplied but can be rented through Greybeard for an additional fee.

We really enjoyed our stay at Grey Rock. The beds are in good shape and the bathrooms are modern. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked with basic spices and bags, foil, etc. The screened in porch is really nice. Getting in/out of the house and driveway is easy. We have already reserved it for next year.

A friend and I met for a short reading week to get some work and planning done away from the interruptions of the church office. Gray Rock was a lovely place for quiet and comfort. We enjoyed reading and working on the screened in porch, and the kitchen table proved a comfortable, bright spot with plenty of windows. We enjoyed nice strolls to break up the day's work, and quiet evenings back at the house after dinner in Black Mt.

The house was just as advertised. Perfect for our weekend getaway.
We accidently left an item at the house and Nicole at Greybeard could not have been more helpful.

Very nice and quiet. The tin roof was especially nice with the rain. Climate was cool despite no AC with all the ceiling fans and a cross breeze. The screened in porch is wonderful, great place to have breakfast or read!

We arrived to a clean and comfortable cottage in Montreat (a place we hold dear) and had a wonderful week of hiking and relaxing. Grey Rock provided us a clean and comfortable stay with most of the comforts of home.

The location was perfect, tucked away from all that is going on in the world in lush green surroundings. The cottage was so clean and had everything we needed for making meals. The sleeping accommodations were cozy and comfortable. It rained but we didn't mind because we could sit out on the screened in porch and embrace nature. Being close to town was nice too but we were happy to relax at the cottage. Wonderful place to getaway!

I loved its rustic charm, and great back porch and fire pit. My family (parents and sister and her family) came up from Florida for a family reunion, so we decided to spend a few days in Montreat. My family vacationed in Montreat when I was a kid. I haven't been back in probable 25-30 years. It definitely brought back some great memories and we were able to make new memories with our own children.

Overall a good spot for a short weekend stay. The bedrooms could use a little upgrade --mirrors for dressing, dresser or bench for bags/dressing area; bedrooms were a little sparse. Kitchen was cute and functional. Screened porch on the back was lovely!

We were able to rent the property on short notice. The location was excellent and the history of the house was intriguing. The house was old and quaint. One of the bathrooms could use some updating.

We were pleased as always with our stay. We did notice however that Gray Rock is no longer \"pet friendly\" so we will have to stay elsewhere in the future. We may be looking for some rentals in Black Mountain instead of Montreat. We'll be in contact....

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Gray Rock Cottage is located in Montreat. This home is approximately 10 minutes to Black Mountain and 30 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Gray Rock Cottage is not “pet friendly”. Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will pick up keys from our Black Mountain office, located at 204 East State Street. Keys will be available starting at 4:00 pm. If you are arriving after hours, you will receive instructions on how to access the safe on our front porch. There will be an envelope with your name and house name at the top. Your keys and driving directions will be inside the envelope.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit.

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Gray Rock Cottage. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
