Relax and unwind in the majestic Black Mountains located 10 minutes from Black Mountain and 25 minutes from Asheville. This opulent three-bedroom, two-bath log cabin is beautifully decorated with fine linens and towels. Situated on seven acres with open, expansive, long-range views, you will recharge and renew your spirit as you relax in this peaceful environment.

Newly renovated, the cabin boasts state-of-the-art appliances and technology, including wireless internet, a 40-inch flat-screen TV, an open kitchen with a breakfast bar, granite countertops, a Jenn-Air stainless steel gas stove, a gas-log fireplace, laundry, and bedrooms on the main level, along with a large wraparound deck to enjoy the long-range mountain views. So relaxing you'll want to visit year after year!  A fenced backyard makes it nice if you decide to bring your dog.

The subdivision (High Rock Acres) roads are gravel for approximately 2 miles. NO 4WD is required unless wintry conditions exist. Bedroom #1 has a Queen bed with fantastic mountain views and access to the deck. The bathroom is just across the hall. Bedroom #2 has a King bed and mountain views. Bedroom #3 has two Twin beds and two Twin trundles. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share an attached Jack-and-Jill bathroom. All bedrooms are on the main level.

Please Note: SHEETS AND TOWELS INCLUDED for your convenience. This house is pet-friendly with an additional pet fee. During the colder winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snow plow operations are possible within the development. From December through March, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles. We also highly recommend travel insurance.

This home is located in the private High Rock Acres community, which has ongoing road construction due to Hurricane Helene. While roads are now passable, ongoing construction has forced traffic down to one lane. For the safety of the crews, drivers must drive slowly and yield to the downflowing vehicles. Please use caution in this area and plan for possible delays. We strongly recommend arriving during daylight hours if possible.

Great cabin. Quiet and stars at night. Spacious, clean, and well-equiped. . The latch on the yard gate wouldn't latch and our dog got out for a 20 minute freedom run through the woods, but that wasn't a big deal.

The house was clean, well maintained, and beautiful. We had everything we needed and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. We brought our dogs with for their first ever vacation. They loved the house also!

The location is perfect. Even though the house had some maintenance issues the staff was fantastic at handling them. The services Greybeard provides are wonderful.

Cabin had a wonderful view and was in a great location to access both Ashville and the wonderful town of Black Mountain. Clean and comfortable. Everything we needed. The bedroom layout is odd, as king bedroom shares a bathroom with twin room. Other beautiful bedroom has bath across hallway. Additionally, this is a pet friendly home and you would never know it - and our dog had a wonderful time. Would definitely return.

This house was the perfect location for a low-key girls weekend in Western, NC! 15 minutes to Black Mountain, and 30 minutes to both Asheville and Chimney Rock. The house was exactly as described, everything was clean and tidy, and the back deck is what mountain dreams are made of! 10/10 would stay here again!

Everything! The location is close enough to town to get things we needed but far enough away that the only sounds are that of nature. Sitting in one of the rocking chairs on the porch while enjoying a cup of hot tea or coffee is the absolute best way to start any day. And the views are spectacular! Every night I'd sit and watch the sunset and find myself saying how absolutely stunning it was.

The hot tub was a nice treat after a day of hiking. There's no light pollution so the sky seemed infinite. A star gazers paradise! I had an opportunity to meet the owners and they were so accommodating and nice. You can tell they take pride in their property and want to make the guests feel welcome. I enjoy cooking and this kitchen was a dream!

By far, this is my favorite place I've ever stayed in the NC mountains! I look forward to my next getaway at Sterling Retreat.

So many Airbnbs do not have enough towels and blankets, but this house had plenty. So many games and puzzles and was just a lovely place to relax.

If you are looking to get away with an amazing view and complete serenity, then Sterling Retreat is for you. Even though it's less than 15mins into Black Mountain (the town), you feel completely removed to experience the peace of nature. I highly recommend staying here especially with the high end amenities like the kitchen, shower, and hot tub.

The house was cozy and clean. We enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub. The weather was not the best-we had an ice storm the first night and it was rainy and foggy the whole time, but we made the best of it! We were cozy and warm. It was a little challenging finding the cabin in the dark and fog, but we made it.

The staff made sure I had all the breakfast items k needed and even reached out to see if I needed additional items. They knew I was bringing a dog even left extra dog bags. The views from Sterling were amazing! Such a quiet retreat that was walkable and close to amazing hiking areas. Highly recommend.

A wonderful home with magnificent sunset views easily accessible to the charming little town of Black Mountain. An extremely restful environment. Well-maintained home with outdoor seating and dining on a large 2 level porch.

We enjoyed how well stocked the cabin was, the kitchen had everything we could need!! Loved the fireplace and the Hot Tub set up. The upgraded kitchen and main bathroom are a nice touch. Location is great for the view and for being remote from the 'big city life'.

Enjoyed the views from the deck and the cozy wood fireplace. Beds and linens were very clean and comfortable. House is well stocked with everything you need, even had lots of firewood. Loved the fenced yard for our dogs.

The property is beautiful - both the cabin and the land! The cabin was stocked with everything as promised. Instructions were provided for all the essentials including check-out, the hot tub, and the television. Everything was clean and orderly as well.

The cabin was great! Very clean and cozy. We loved it and hope to go back soon. We had a fresh pumpkin loaf waiting for us from four sisters bakery! Cozy fire and breathtaking views. Thumbs up!!

We stayed at Sterling Cabin at the end of October. It was a quaint cabin in Black Mountain with picturesque views of the fall foliage. Drive up the mountain and the short unpaved road was not a challenge. Online booking was a breeze and booking agent called several times prior to arrival to make sure we didn't have any questions. We are strongly considering rebooking this cabin or through Greybeard if we are ever in the area again.

Split this rental with some friends for a relaxing weekend. The views were great, the cabin was well taken care of and very relaxing. Fireplace was a great addition. Would advise bringing firewood if anyone plans on using it. The drive up to the cabin is best with a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Black mountain is only 10/15 minutes down the mountain, Ashville is about 20/30 mins. Overall would rent again if we have the time next year!

Nice Cabin with a great view. Well stocked with kitchen supplies. We did have an issue with the hot tub and was offered another cabin to move to but chose to stay because of the logistics to move our things. They had it fixed and working our last day there. Gray Beards reality was very good to accommodate our trip with Biltmore tickets and house entry times. We did the 9 mile rafting trip through them as well and it was an excellent experience. Get Jim (red beard) as your boat guide he is outstanding! It was a great family weekend.

The house was warm and inviting. The cabin had everything we needed and was very clean. The view was breathtaking. The location was fantastic - only about 15 minutes from Asheville. The yard was fine(albeit super steep) for our younger dog, but would not be good for dogs with physical limits. Both adult beds were very soft and hurt my back after a few nights, but it's just a matter of preference. My husband thought the master bed was fantastic though. Didn't really matter since the hot tub was so comfortable and clean. Overall, amazing stay in an amazing house. Neighborhood is nice and quiet.

This was my first time renting a cabin to stay in on vacation. I will never stay in a hotel if there is a cabin close to rent. Felt like I was at home with family. This cabin is Close to town and very central for planning day trips and ventures. Black Mtn. is a great town with everything you need from food to shopping.

Great experience - good view, hot tub was nice, very clean and cute cabin. It takes a good bit of a mountainous drive to actually get to the cabin as it is on the mountain but once you're there it's very nice. Just not really close to any of the attractions. Good view and secluded.

The vacation was all we were expecting. We got a restful vacation near a quaint city, Black Mountain. Good food, shopping and site seeing. the Sterling Retreat was wonderful and we really enjoyed a great fire every evening. We would definitely stay at Sterling Retreat again or another one of the Greybeard Rentals.

Our stay at the Sterling Retreat was during the long Memorial Day weekend. We were surprised and happy to find this property off the beaten path. The home was clean and well equipped. We cooked most of our meals and everything we needed was provided...dishes, pots, pans, and even a few spices. A nice gas grill was located conveniently right outside the dining area. My only wish is that the grass and shrubbery in fenced area out back had been cut. It was a little overgrown. We had planned to bring our 2 fur babies but at the last minute we found a sitter at home. I would have called the rental agency if they had accompanied us. We had a great time with beautiful un-obstructed views. We would definitely book this rental again. The rental staff were very friendly and professional.

Sterling is convenient to town if you feel the need. It was clean and inviting! The view is magnificent. You feel as if you are alone on the hilltop even though there are neighbors.

Sterling retreat is a great rental. The cabin is cozy but perfectly comfortable for our group of 4 adults and 4 kids. The deck and hot tub have wonderful views. The cabin is located up a mountain side- we were glad to have all wheel drive and it's about 20 min drive from Asheville as well as Chimney Rock. We thought it was a great place to retreat but to be close enough to the various attractions of the area.

We love this home. It is our second time to rent. We love the changes to the hot tub so you can view the mountains! We did miss the Greybeard welcome with the Pumpkin Bread - but we visited the bakery on our own.

We had 8 people stay at the Sterling cabin comfortably.

Pros: Beautiful view, hot tub, clean, plenty of kitchenware/small appliances, grill and various family games to play. Oh, and when we arrived there was a delicious pumpkin loaf for us left by the owner. Very nice!

Cons: Somewhat small, but still plenty of room for all of us. There was little to no firewood cut for us. The drive up is a bit steep and a little rough for the car. Really there aren't many cons to this place; we loved it!

I highly recommend this cabin for a fun weekend trip!

My wife and I really enjoyed the Sterling Retreat, as did our dog! Very clean, nicely appointed/decorated, with a great kitchen and was the perfect place for us to relax and recharge for a week. We'd love to visit again, sometime..

We had some friends from Arizona visiting and we thought we'd take them to the mountains as opposed to the beach this trip. We are SO glad we did! This home had AMAZING views (you can tell after reading the past reviews they did indeed cut some trees down so you could see the beautiful view!) and a great little home. The place was clean and well maintained. There was the occasional spider and some bugs outside though what can you expect in the mountains??? The only complaint we had (and this is SOOOO minor!) was the jets were not working very well on the hot tub. All the power was coming out of the 1 jet. It's so minor I even forgot to mention it when leaving the property on the review form! Greybeard was wonderful to work with, I actually never spoke to a person and it was still a great, smooth experience overall. We will be renting from them again!

It was a very nice house only 4 people in are party this time could sleep more but perfect space for 4 adults and 2 dogs kitchen was fully stocked for any thing you could use. We went a little late in season and had a lot of fog but on a clear day what a view. nice to have a fenced in yard for dogs! Only thing that could make it better is trimming trees for a better view and a out door fire pit. Very clean and homey will stay again.

By and large it was awesome. Love the area. The house was cute and comfortable. The drawbacks were losing water for a full day and no fire pit as advertised which was a big bummer.

The cabin was nice & had plenty of room for 6 or 7 people. The kitchen was stocked with what you need to cook. The outdoor furniture could be replaced. And some of the trees could be cut down to make a better view out the back porch.

The home was absolutely wonderful! From the first step of the rental application to the check out process, the whole experience was above and beyond. I couldn't have asked for more from our stay. Everything was as described. The area is great for hiking, dogs and vegans. We actually extend our stay for an additional day and would have done more if we could have. We already are talking about coming down again.

Had a great time the whole of Black Mountain was wonderful, our cabin was great, the only thing was the trees had been allowed to grow around property and the hot tub, thus stopping us getting a good view and sunlight around property and hot-tub.

We enjoyed our stay at Sterling Retreat. It was nice to have a fenced yard for our Labrador, and the interior was also very dog friendly with hardwood floors. The kitchen was well equipped and the house overall was very clean. The only negative about the property is the long and bumpy gravel road - I got two flat tires and felt like my suspension was shot after driving on it for a week. An SUV or truck would probably fare better than my minivan did.

Great experience all around. They down play the view - it was awesome, much better than expected. Only thing I would change is that I wish the king bed was in the master bed room.

FAQs

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

This property offers a flexible cancellation policy that differs from the standard cancellation policy. The policy for this home is the moderate policy. The terms of the policy are as stated: Bookings canceled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive 100% refund. Bookings canceled at least 14 days before the start of the stay will receive 50% refund.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Sterling Retreat is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Sterling Retreat has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Sterling Retreat has a wood burning fireplace for guests to use. Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. 

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit, which is not provided at Sterling Retreat. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Sterling Retreat. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
