Snagging the title as one of the longest annual traditions in Asheville (since 1928), The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival is a true display of the Asheville area's cultural heritage. The event takes place every first weekend in August and is comprised of a host of mountain fiddlers, dulcimer sweepers, dancers, balladeers and sponsored by the Folk Heritage Committee.
The event's main stage is at the Mission Health/AB-Tech Conference Center in Asheville from August 3-5th and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. each night. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets range from $12-$60.
Bascom Lamar Lunsford founded the festival with the intention of helping people share and understand the 'beauty and dignity of Southern Appalachian music and dance traditions' that have been passed down in WNC culture.
