Chow Chow (named after a pickled relish that is popular in southern Appalachia) is a new food festival in Asheville that celebrates chefs and the local food scene through a grand tasting event, chef demos and much more. The Travel Channel recently named Asheville "New Top City for Wine in the United States" and Southern Living called Asheville one of the "Tastiest Towns in the South." This event has been brought to Asheville by the minds of Chef Katie Button of Curate, Chai Pani owner Meherwan Irani, French Broad Chocolate Lounge's Jael Rattigan. Angel Postel, founder of Charleston's Wine & Food Festival will be the event director.
The main event will be at Pack Square Park and include demos and dinners throughout the city.
Details are still be ironed out for this special event, but here is the scoop of what we've heard the event may include so far:
- A grand tasting tent makers market
- Chef demo stage
- Educational experiences such as demos of clay cups to use for cocktails
- Chocolate flight night with French Broad Chocolates
- Farmer's feast
- History of Native American influence on food products
