Things to Do & Events

With inclement weather predicted this weekend, perhaps you’ve had to give up on some of your planned outdoor activities. It’s not too late to take in the 3rd Annual National Truffle Fest being held in the Asheville area this weekend. The weekend convention offers visitors a chance to experience a wide variety of the expensive, exotic fungus. On its website, the convention highlights the Black Diamond Perigord truffles that it notes are found in the “fertile Blue Ridge Mountain growing area.”

To get more background on the fledgling NC truffle industry, you might want to read the front page NY Times story on the subject that appeared Mar 4th. The article talks about two competing truffle growers for whom the competition has come to include lawsuits and counter lawsuits. While it seems a bit extreme to go to such measures for a fungus, the author points out that truffles can go wholesale for as much as $600 a pound.

Check out the website for more information about times and events. And if you can’t make it this weekend but would like assistance in choosing an Asheville rental cabin or planning your Asheville vacation, please contact Greybeard Realty.
