While Michelin may not list any official five-star restaurants in Asheville yet, that doesn’t mean that incredible dining opportunities are not available. Quite the contrary, Asheville is synonymous with great eating. It’s to the point where ExploreAsheville has a special name for Asheville’s culinary scene. They’ve named it “Foodtopia.”

In recognition of Asheville’s bountiful dining options, Zagat listed Asheville in its “30 most exciting food cities in America in 2017.” The accompanying article points out that three James Beard award nominees made their home in Asheville. It cites Katie Button (Curate and Nightbell), John Fleer (Rhubarb), and Elliott Moss (Little Louie's) as three of the stellar nominees. In addition, the article goes on to mention the recent openings of other establishments including a second location for Gan Shan West, a dumpling and noodle shop, and the debut of Little Jumbo, a cocktail bar.

Other sources point to West Asheville as being one of the city’s most active for fun dining spots, listing BimBeriBon and Foothills Butcher Bar and Kitchen as two locations of interest. For something a bit out of the ordinary, why not check out Looking Glass Creamery that has cheese classes at Fairview Farm. Or perhaps it’s time for a visit to Spicewalla spice factory, operated by Meherwan Irani, known as the spice whisperer.

If you’re headed our way for a culinary experience, you’d best plan for a lengthy stay. A quick office survey of fine dining Asheville favorites turned up a lengthy list of dining options, in no particular order. Some suggestions other than those already listed above include Red Stag Grill, Chestnut, and Posana Restaurant. Other favorites include Bouchon, Corner Kitchen, Zambra, Limones, and Bull and Beggar.
