Wildside Retreat puts you inside Camp Lake James—one of Western North Carolina's most coveted private lake communities—with full guest access to the resort-style amenities that make it special: a community pool, the Canteen café, a covered pavilion, and lakeside gathering areas, all within a short walk of the front door.

The home itself is a three-bedroom, three-bath cabin with a sleek, modern interior that feels more like an upscale mountain lodge than a rustic retreat. Vaulted ceilings, a granite kitchen island with bar seating for four, a gas log fireplace, and a lower-level den with a game table give everyone room to settle in and spend quality time together. Outside, a screened porch with its own gas fireplace is perfect for morning coffee, while the fire pit in the backyard is where you'll spend evenings under the stars.

The layout: Three queen bedrooms spread across three levels (main, upper, and lower), plus an upper-level twin room, ideal for families. Three full bathrooms, in-unit laundry, and an EV/Tesla charger round things out.

Out the door: Fonta Flora's open-air brewery at Whippoorwill Farm is 1.5 miles away. Downtown Marion for craft beer and dining is under 20 minutes. Morganton is 30 minutes, Black Mountain is 45 minutes, and Asheville is about an hour. Pontoon rentals are available at Lake James Neighborhood Store (4.3 miles) and Noah's Landing (10.3 miles).

Note: Dogs are welcome (up to two, $100/dog non-refundable fee). The home has a Ring doorbell camera. The home is near the lake but is not lakefront and does not have a private dock. Community docks and the fitness center are private and off-limits to guests.

This is our second time at Wildside. The house is beautiful. Plenty of space for our family. Our favorite is to have breakfast and dinner on the screened in porch.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Wildside Retreat is located within close proximity to Lake James in its 1780 neighborhood and offers exclusive access to Camp Lake James amenities. This home is approximately 20 minutes to Marion, 30 minutes to Morganton, 45 minutes to Black Mountain, and an hour to Asheville. WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

This property offers a flexible cancellation policy that differs from the standard cancellation policy. The policy for this home is the moderate policy. The terms of the policy are as stated: Bookings canceled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive 100% refund. Bookings canceled at least 14 days before the start of the stay will receive 50% refund.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Wildside Retreat at Lake James is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Wildside Retreat at Lake James has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION & WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD PROVIDED?

Wildside Retreat at Lake James has an indoor gas logs fireplace and outdoor fire pit. Gas logs are not in operation May through September due to the warmer summer months. 

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses may have a small leftover supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Wildside Retreat at Lake James. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.

WHERE AND HOW DO I ACQUIRE A BOAT RENTAL IN LAKE JAMES?

While Wildside Retreat at Lake James is in close proximity to the lake, it is NOT lakefront and does NOT have its own private boat dock. For questions regarding boat rentals, please contact the Lake James Neighborhood Store (828) 391-8600 or Noah’s Landing (828) 707-2174.
