Perfect for large groups, this updated haven in the woods is just a 10-minute walk to Lake Susan and a 10-minute drive to shops, restaurants, and breweries in downtown Black Mountain. Secluded beneath a theatre of trees, enjoy a large deck overlooking the rushing Flat Creek below, surrounded by rhododendron. Six bedrooms, a bonus bunk room, six bathrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen make it easy to enjoy and accommodate a multi-generational crowd.

Internet, smart TVs, games, puzzles, and books for all ages are available, plus easy access to hiking trails and rock-hopping in the front yard creek. AC/heat with thermostats on all three floors. Soak up the fresh air and relish the soothing babble of Flat Creek in this special home surrounded by breathtaking Appalachian beauty in all four seasons!

House Layout:
MAIN LEVEL- Newly renovated kitchen with breakfast bay for 6, two bar stools, washer & dryer, and attached den with a wood-burning fireplace; great room with Smart TV and real piano, and a dining table for 14; bedroom with a Tempur-Pedic Queen bed and accessible bath; full hall bath; air mattress available (Note: If renting linens, please note that the blow up mattress is not included with the count). 

UPPER LEVEL- Master bedroom with King bed, gorgeous views, and accessible bathroom; second bedroom with a Queen; hall bath.

LOWER LEVEL- Kitchen Sink, mini fridge, and microwave with a table for 5; den with 2 sets of bunk beds and Twin trundle; 2 hall bathrooms; washer-dryer; bedroom with Queen and bunk bed; bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds and Twin trundle; bedroom with Tempur-Pedic Double bed; ping-pong table.

OUTDOORS- Large wrap-around deck with screened porch. Paved driveway to both the main and lower levels, three steps, and an accessible ramp to the main level. Parking for 4 vehicles on each level; gas grills on the patio; 2 picnic tables on the deck; disc golf baskets, corn hole, and giant Jenga; a new walkway in the woods and steps down to the creek. 

Please note: Sheets and towels are not provided but may be rented through Greybeard Rentals. Accessible bathrooms have 32-inch showers. Small dogs will be considered for an extra fee, but please keep them crated when away. The owner has a Toyota Corolla parked in the lower driveway year-round, and the owner will be on the premises during the summer season.

Perfect home for large extended family

We have stayed in many Montreat homes but this is the best. Lots of drive up parking and ramp for easy unpacking. Master on main plus separate apartment on main! Lots of bedrooms and baths. Great kitchen and the best dining room table in Montreat can seat 18! Great for family meals and games. We love One Acre Wood!

Perfect Large Group Montreat Mountain House

Amazing place! Plenty of room for all of our youth group and the adults who accompany them. There is room for 5 or 6 vehicles to park. The house has all of the cookware and dishes that you will ever need. We rent this place every year for the Montreat Youth Conference.

we need another refrigerator; One refrigerator for 23 people is not enough. Also, the pillows need an upgrade. Otherwise: perfect!

With its many bedrooms, spacious living and dining areas, and well-equipped kitchen, One Acre Wood is ideal for large family gatherings. Its peaceful setting with wrap-around deck overlooking Flat Creek makes it all the more special. We have owned a small home in Montreat since the 1960's and have stayed in many other homes through the years. When the extended family parachutes in for our annual week in Montreat, One Acre Wood has become our go-to vacation home.

One Acre Wood fits all our needs. It starts with the large parking area accommodating at least 5 cars. Then there's the ramp for easy access and easy unloading. There is plenty of space for everyone... bedroom on main and separate apartment for grandparents, bedrooms up and down with separate baths and three large living spaces for all to enjoy. The long dining room table is a favorite for family meals and games and the outdoor spaces are perfect for enjoying the sounds of the stream. The kitchen has everything you need for preparing family meals, and there are even toys and games for the grands down to the newest 9 month old.

The great parking and easy access made for easy move in and out. The huge windows flooded the large gathering spaces with light and views. Best kitchen in Montreat with well stocked utensils and spices. The large table for meals and games was favorite of everyone. The multiple baths were great for our large family of 14. Internet was great for those still working. Finally walk was not too steep for 12 yr old clubbies enjoying Montreat freedom.

I LOVED all the trails that surrounded the property! It was the perfect location for hiking. One Acre Wood had plenty of room for our family. Between the shops and restaurants in Black Mountain and the creeks and hiking trails in Montreat, this was THE PERFECT PLACE!

One Acre Wood is the ideal home for an extended family gathering. It's not just that it has 7 bedrooms and 7 baths, it also has multiple living areas. If some oaf wants to watch a baseball game or the news and monopolize the living room, there are plenty of other spaces where you can find peace and quiet. In addition to the large (I should say huge) combined living and family area, there is an expansive wraparound deck, a screened-in porch with its own fireplace, and a smaller den with an impressive library and another fireplace. The kitchen is extraordinarily well furnished. The owners obviously enjoy cooking, and it shows in the quality and variety of dinnerware, cooking utensils, pots, pans, coffee makers, spices, etc. The home is built into the side of the mountain right below the campground entrance, looking out over Flat Creek. With no immediate neighboring homes on either side, the location is quite peaceful. We have owned a smaller house in Montreat since the 1960's, and we have visited and stayed in many other homes there. We rented this home because it is close to our house, and we needed it for our large, extended family. It suited our needs perfectly, and based on what we have seen of Montreat homes through the years, One Acre Wood is at the top of our list!

This was our 2nd stay in 4 years at one acre wood. While we enjoyed our stay last time, the house has had substantial improvements.
Overall, it is clean, has a well stocked kitchen, lots of sleeping space,lots of dining space and a fireplace for gathering on cool evenings.

We enjoyed walking to Lake Susan, the playground and the shops.

Our only suggestions would be for the staff to spend some time replacing light bulbs in the kitchen areas and the upstairs master bath.

Beautiful cabin tucked away in the woods but 5 min drive to town. Very spacious and clean. Plenty of rooms for our family get together. Nice big kitchen with all the gadgets you need. Wood burning fireplace was a nice treat too. The cabin had bedrooms on every level. Lower-level had plenty of bedrooms and was secluded, if you wanted some quiet time. Small creek right in front of the cabin which the kids played in every day. Montreat is such a quaint little town with lots of restaurants and shopping. We were only 15 minutes from Asheville. We will definitely be coming back.

Fourteen youth and six adults lived very comfortably together, due to large kitchen, ample dining inside and on porch, three living spaces, and five full bathrooms. Easy walk to Lake Susan. Beautiful sights and sounds of rushing mountain stream!

Cousins age 10-17 from Kentucky to New Jersey have stayed here for 3 years with grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. Priceless memories. I suggested by email that more chairs on the deck would be helpful and they were there before 8 the next morning.

Absolutely loved this home and surroundings. We had planned a family reunion renting two houses and used this house to gather the family every night for dinner. My brother and I take our children and grandchildren for the Music and Worship Conference at Montreat every year. This is the best place we've ever stayed. Lots of bathrooms. The grandchildren are getting older and appreciated the space and separate spaces--though they tended to congregate in the big open family room. Any thing you need to cook for a crowd. Thanks.

We have children from 8 to 15 who go to a conference at Montreat. They look forward to this time and love the house. Plenty of room to be together or separate--mostly together. The house was clean and extremely well equipped.

great house for large extended family. Well located, well supplied and close to lots of activity for grandchildren. And of course there is Montreat which has its own renewal of spirit and body.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

One Acre Wood is located in Montreat. This home is approximately 10 minutes to Black Mountain and 30 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

One Acre Wood is specified as "pet friendly" and small dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season. 

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will pick up keys from our Black Mountain office, located at 204 East State Street. Keys will be available starting at 4:00 pm. If you are arriving after hours, you will receive instructions on how to access the safe on our front porch. There will be an envelope with your name and house name at the top. Your keys and driving directions will be inside the envelope.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at One Acre Wood. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
