Montford is a historic neighborhood in Asheville, located within very close proximity to downtown Asheville. Most homes in the neighborhood were built between 1890 and 1920 and the area is brimming with character. Montford has its own annual festival, it is home to the Asheville Visitor Center and you can also walk to North Carolina's longest running Shakespeare Festival for free theatre performances with the Montford Players throughout the summer months. In addition, Montford is home to the Riverside Cemetery which is the resting place of the famous author Thomas Wolfe, William Sydney Porter and North Carolina Governor Zebulon Vance.
