McLean Cottage was built in 1931 and has been in the same family for 4 generations. It was fully updated in early 2018 to include central air conditioning, and it offers easy and level access to the main level from the front circular driveway along with a lovely front porch and side deck to enjoy. An easy walk to Lake Susan and the heart of Montreat Conference Center activities, the large kitchen and living area make this a great house for families or youth groups attending a conference.

HOUSE LAYOUT: Main floor: Living room with TV, FIREPLACE IS NOT USABLE. A bedroom with a queen bed and adjacent bath. Great eat-in kitchen fully equipped. Upstairs: a bedroom with 2 full-size beds and a TV; 2 bedrooms each have 2 twin beds. There is a full hall bath. The master suite has a queen bed and a full bath. Large lot with level parking for 3-4 cars.

Please note: This home provides sheets and towels for your visit. For your convenience, beds will be made for stays from mid-August through May. During the summer Montreat Conference season (typically from the 1st Saturday in June to the 1st Saturday in August) the linens will be delivered to the home and available in gray laundry bags.

Great location for exploring Montreat. We'd walk to the Park daily to play in the creek and on the play equipment (also Lake Susan). Second year that we've used the house and we will use it again next summer. One improvement that I would suggest is to get a new dishwasher. I was afraid that I might break it due to its fragile condition with the difficulty in closing the door and the operation of the top loading rack.

Excellent...really lovely cottage and well appointed! This cottage goes far beyond Montreat standards: top quality bed linens ( almost too nice for church youth groups I would think). Kitchen had everything ( even a nice sketch in the silverware drawer indicated the right slot for everything! Beautiful antiques ( we were obsessively careful about using coasters! interesting art work- not cluttered at all- we guessed that an interior designer was involved...all of the thoughtful touches did not go unnoticed by our group!

We had a great time gathering the family together to celebrate our nieces wedding. It is an older house with many neat rooms and plenty of space. Easy drive to Asheville. We would rent again if we need to rent in that area in the future.

We loved it, the house is perfectly situated in Montreat right near the gates. Easy walk to Lake Susan and the playgrounds. We had a full house with 10 people and we were quite comfortable. Definitely recommend this house!

This was our second time renting this house and we loved staying there. My mother uses a walker and the house is handicap accessible - an important factor for us. I also love that it is pet friendly. The house is well located and equipped and a great place to stay for those looking for the quintessential \"Montreat experience\".

Any day spent in Montreat is a good day. This was our first experience staying in the Barden House. It is a great size for family gatherings with 5 bedrooms, a large comfortable seating area, two eating areas and a huge kitchen space and everything you could possibly need to cook meals. I liked the fact that it was handicap accessible with one downstairs bedroom for my 96 year old mother. There was a bath but no shower downstairs, which was a problem for her. The house in a great location with easy walking to Lake Susan and hiking trails. No air, which wasn't an issue due to time of year and plenty of fans in the house. This home is one of the older ones in Montreat and has lots of character; however, it needs quite a bit of TLC in the form of deep cleaning and de-cluttering that goes beyond the cleaning done by the rental agency. I would consider staying there again because of the positives, but would really love to see this house get the TLC and loving care it deserves.

We stayed at Barden House with our youth group and had an excellent stay. The house is very walkable to the center of Montreat. The walk is fairly level considering you are in the mountains! The house is large enough for a group to spread out, has enough seating for group meals and group discussions and has plenty of parking. I would highly recommend Barden ?House to a group or even a large family.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

McLean Cottage is located in Montreat. This home is approximately 10 minutes to Black Mountain and 30 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

McLean Cottage is not “pet friendly.” Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will receive check-in instructions prior to your arrival with driving directions and key access information. You do not need to stop by our office to pick up your keys. You will go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit.

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at McLean Cottage. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
