Important to Note: This home has 4 exterior cameras and a Ring Doorbell facing the driveway/parking area. This house is dog-friendly, with a $100.00 non-refundable fee per dog (maximum of two). Sorry, this home is not cat-friendly due to common allergies. This home has its own private boat dock on Lake James. The owner has a boat and a jet ski permanently docked, but there is an available spot for a guest boat and an additional jet ski. If interested in renting a boat during your stay, please contact Lake James Marina or Noah's Landing. While the home provides access to Lake James, it does NOT offer access to Camp Lake James amenities.

Found the home clean, well furnished, and quiet. Conveniently located to Marion and Morganton for dining and shopping. Would consider another stay, possibly in the winter to enjoy the area without the summer traffic.

This was our first stay with Greybeard Rentals and their customer service was beyond impressive. Prior to check-in their communication was consistent with timely updates and reminders. The afternoon of our check-in at Hilltop Lodge on Lake James, there was a massive storm that knocked multiple trees down and blocked our path to the lake. And the power went out a couple times which kicked off the water pump. The team at Greybeard was immediately available via phone and text - helping us reset the water pump and sending someone over within a couple hours (while it was still raining) to clear the trees from our path. I can't say enough about the service and the tone it set for our trip. Thank you!

FAMILY VACATION 2024

We had a wonderful family vacation at Hilltop Lodge. Our children and grandchildren were with us and had fun hiking and visiting the area. We grew up in Old Fort and know the area well. The house itself was well equipped and comfortable. We are 80 & 82 years old and found that there needs to be handrails on the front porch and there needs to be handrails in the master bathroom on the top floor. We absolutely loved the screened in porch and spent a lot of time out there. We have family who live in the area and they were able to visit us while we were there. We made many, many lasting memories there and took lots and lots of photos to prove it.

We fell in love with this gorgeous property! The entire family came for a beautiful Autumn weekend. The house was absolutely perfect! My brother and I hold special places in our hearts for Lake James. Our parents met on Lake James many years ago. I cannot say enough about this very comfortable home and it’s spectacular surroundings. It was a peaceful weekend with memories that will last a lifetime.

The location and house were beautiful! So many extras in the house and comfortable seating and beds.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Hilltop Lodge is located on Lake James. This home is approximately 20 minutes to Marion, 28 minutes to Morganton, 45 minutes to Black Mountain, and an hour to Asheville, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Hilltop Lodge on Lake James is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Hilltop Lodge on Lake James has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION?

Gas logs are not in operation May through September due to the warmer summer months. 

Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Hilltop Lodge on Lake James. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.

WHERE AND HOW DO I ACQUIRE A BOAT RENTAL IN LAKE JAMES?

Hilltop Lodge on Lake James has has its own private boat dock for guests to use within the designated guidelines outlined by Lake James. The owner's boat and jet ski are always docked, but there is an available spot for a guest boat and an additional jet ski.
