This mountaintop cabin, overlooking the charming town of Black Mountain, is the perfect place to relax and unwind while you explore the natural wonders of western North Carolina. Enjoy the splendor of waking up to a cup of coffee on the porch in the early morning and spend those cool, mountain evenings around the fire pit taking in the stars above. The cabin features an open living concept, creating a cozy environment perfect for small families or a couple's getaway. With a spacious and well-equipped kitchen, you will be tempted to stay in to prepare your own meals while dining alfresco indoors or picnicking outdoors. For lazy days indoors, this cabin offers streaming and Wi-Fi, as well as a luxurious bathroom with a soaking tub. The master bedroom features a queen bed and a private deck. There's an additional bonus room off the master bedroom with two daybeds.

Less than 10 minutes to downtown Black Mountain and half an hour to Asheville, Cardinal Cottage offers guests a peaceful respite from the day-to-day while still offering the convenience of fine dining, local shopping, and world-acclaimed attractions. Venture off to explore the town of Montreat and the miles of biking and hiking trails intertwined amongst of the Black Mountains. Take in a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway- American's Most Beautiful Drive, spend the day exploring the Biltmore Estate's house and gardens, or discover how Asheville earned the nickname "Beer City USA" by sampling the numerous craft breweries throughout Asheville and the surrounding areas.

PLEASE NOTE: The living room fireplace is not useable. There are approximately 18 steps leading down from the parking area to the front entrance. Cardinal Cottage is pet friendly with an additional pet fee. Cardinal Cottage will include holiday decor this season. Most homes are decorated by the first week of December, but please feel free to contact us for specific timing.

Cabin itself is okay, reminds me of an old family cabin - cute and rustic. But, the views are the selling point. From every direction, capturing sunrise (from bed) and sunset. Very convenient to downtown Black Mountain. We didn’t watch a lot of tv, but when we did, it was super small and unstable connection. Could be upgraded. Would not recommend for more than two adults, and if you have children, only smaller ones. Would be tight fit with more. We had a great stay and good value.

My wife and I gave a gift of a stay at the cottage for my daughter and son-in-law to celebrate a major achievement in their lives. They enjoyed every aspect of the cottage and it's offerings, from comfortable sleeping arrangements, the wonderful décor, the peaceful and beautiful surroundings, to the firepit at which they prepared a rustic meal and took in the night-time views. The cottage has become a personal retreat for our family.

We enjoyed the well appointed cabin, vintage decor, and view from top of the mountain. The cabin was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We did see a bear on the property during our stay.

For starters, the house is conveniently located to Black Mountain, while maintaining a rustic cabin feel and great views. The updated bathroom and fully stocked kitchen with all appliances made for a very comfortable stay, and the wi-fi was reliable and convenient.

I cannot emphasize enough what a perfect location it is - we went as far south as Saluda and far north as Wolf Laurel, and having a centrally located space made it convenient to check out these dispersed areas. The cabin itself is very well-centered in the town of Black Mountain, so we had flexibility to choose dining options and easy access to shopping while the winding streets, high elevation, and the homey neighborhood enhanced the "woodsy" feeling. The cabin is very eclectic, but in the best way, without leaning on the usual bear decor. At first I thought the table lamps were a strange choice, but then I realized every one had been carefully considered and strategically placed. For a small footprint, the space is well-considered and very comfortable for the two of us and our large dog. The decks and firepit were amazing for taking in the expansive (winter) views.

Cardinal Cottage is simply perfect. The location feels secluded yet you're 10 mins away from downtown Black Mountain. We even had a visitor from a bear! The views from the house are fantastic and the balconies provide outside comfort to enjoy the sunset and sunrise on. We have stayed in Black Mountain a few times before and this cottage was our absolute favorite. It is rustic yet updated with all the conveniences of a new house which makes it very comfortable.

Everything! This was an amazing summer in Black Mountain. Work was a great challenge, but coming "home" to the cottage was a deep breath, exhale, open your eyes and all is better! Watching the wildlife was immensely satisfying. Bear, coyote, bobcats, very entertaining squirrels, hummingbirds, hawks, and the hundreds of butterflies. I don't think we would have survived without this slice of paradise!

The location was great and the cabin was darling and kitschy. We enjoyed the hiking trails in nearby Montreat and ate some wonderful meals in the Black Mountain and of course Asheville. The Goldfinch in Black Mountain was a hidden restaurant gem; it was so good we ate there twice.

We got lost trying to get to the cabin. The 24 hour staff member was very helpful at giving clear directions and we made it to our destination. The cabin was clean and very cute. We loved all the windows, wrap around deck and the views. We spent a week at the cabin and enjoyed every minute of it. The drive up the mountain was a bit scary, but once we got acclimated, it was fine. Don't recommend doing the drive after dark. There are no lights.

We loved our stay at Sky High!! It was so much better than I could have even imagined. Beautiful scenery, private, very clean. Roads are a bit intense climbing up the mountain but are well-paved. Loved the full porch and private balcony off master bedrooom. Can't wait to go back!

The moment you pull up to this cabin you begin to relax just from the beauty. The cabin is well appointed and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. The staff at the rental company were great when our code wasn't working and very attentive to all our needs. As a company they went out of their way on the customer service front. I would use them again for sure.

We enjoyed our Black Mountain visit. Cabin/house was clean, comfortable, quiet. Had a few visitors, bear and turkey. Definitely arrive during daylight hours to find the house. Directions given for getting to the house and using the house were easy to follow.

It would be nice to put some travel info/hiking info etc in the cabin for those looking for an adventure.

My friends and I stayed at Sky High between Christmas and New Year's. As soon as we first arrived we were amazed with the cabin - the view was spectacular, the interior was so cozy and even the decor was quaint yet eclectic (exactly our style). It was clean and had everything we needed. Waking up early and seeing the sunrise from the balcony off of the bedroom is a total must every morning! Our only issue was checking out, but that was primarily due to the unexpected weather from the winter storm and the fact that it was New Year's... we were unable to make it back to the cabin the night of NYE because of black ice, and the offices were closed all day on New Year's Day so we could not get a hold of anyone via email or phone. My only suggestion would be for one person in the company to be in charge of checking voice-mails/emails at the beginning and end of the day if no one will be in the office (for emergency purposes such as ours). We would definitely stay here again though- we wish we owned it!

We could not possibly say enough about this absolutely wonderful, cozy, comfortable, beautiful cabin and property! The drive up to the cabin is easy and so beautiful. It was more than we imagined, after abandoning a vacation rental that was just too far away from our family and friends we had come to see. From the start, the Graybeard staff went far above and beyond in welcoming us with a sweet care package! The cabin itself smelled like a fresh-burning fireplace, and was so clean and charming. We had every amenity we could possibly need, as the owner and Graybeard did not miss a thing! The Master Suite bed was SOOO comfortable, it was difficult to get up and leave in the mornings! The surroundings were beautiful and serene! We will ask to stay here again and again when we come to visit! Thank you all for the most enjoyable and awesome stay we have ever had! This is an A+++ vacation rental, and should not be overlooked!

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Cardinal Cottage is located in Black Mountain. This home is approximately a 5-minute drive to downtown Black Mountain and a 25-minute drive to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus a $75 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Cardinal Cottage is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Cardinal Cottage has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE? 

This home provides an outdoor fire pit. Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Cardinal Cottage. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
