Nestled in the private, gated community of Gateway Mountain, Big Sky Lodge offers a spacious, comfortable retreat surrounded by 3,000 acres of pristine nature preserve. Whether you prefer exploring nearby towns or enjoying the exclusive natural beauty and amenities of this serene mountain setting, this home provides the perfect balance of privacy and convenience for family and friends.

About the Home
• Expansive great room with floor-to-ceiling windows, stone fireplace (Dura-flame logs only, please), and pool table.
• Dining for 6, with additional kitchen table seating for 4.
• State-of-the-art kitchen featuring smooth surface stove, stainless steel refrigerator, drip-style coffee maker, and dishwasher. Note: The water dispenser and ice maker on the refrigerator do not work. 
• Wraparound deck with charcoal grill, a variety of seating for sunbathing and relaxing, and a hot tub
• Upper-level loft-style library with seating
• Lower-level living room with Smart TV for streaming.

Please note: Although pets are not permitted for guests, the owners sometimes bring their dogs, so it is not recommended for individuals with dog allergies. This home has an exterior security camera facing the driveway. The garage is not available for guest use.

Winter months (December to March) may bring icy or snowy roads; AWD/4WD is recommended, and travel insurance is suggested. Gateway Mountain does not allow parking on roadways or at gate entrances, and RVs, boat trailers, or other trailers are not permitted.

We spent 3 nights at the big sky lodge. House is big and with beautiful views all around. Plenty of space for two families. It was well kept and comfortable. Has all the amenities that you may need. We were able to pick up groceries and cook everyday. House is a little far away from nearby attractions so have a drive a bit to go out to eat etc. Graybeard provides everything you need during check in. The whole process was very smooth. Highly recommend.

Mountain Retreat

The Cabin is lovely & very spacious. If you have a large family or a girls getaway this would be perfect. Plenty of sitting area & bedrooms & the kitchen is fully stocked. The library was a bonus with books, games & puzzles. There are some winding & steep roads leading back but it’s paved. 4 wheel drive was not required, but wouldn’t hurt. For beautiful Fall Foliage mid to end of October is perfect. For most sightseeing it’s a 45-60 min drive which we didn’t mind. The office is very helpful & allowed us to extend one night. Views on the front deck were breathtaking & a great place to read.

This cabin was awesome! Everything was clean and the cabin was great. The view from the deck is breathtaking. We had such a wonderful time thank you Greybeard.

We loved the accommodations! The home was thoughtfully equipped with all the essentials and clean. The rental staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hot tub was a nice touch overlooking the snowy mountains! We will definitely be back and loved making such great memories!

The home is beautiful and had everything we needed to enjoy our trip! The views are absolutely stunning, it's private, and the cabin was very clean upon our arrival. We had a great time in the hot tub! We would absolutely stay here again, it was truly an amazing home!

Fyi: The cabin is listed as \"30 min from Asheville\" on VRBO, however, it's 45-50 min. We were a little disappointed in the communication on this as we made plans to be in Asheville every day for our trip. It's an easy drive, but by the third day we were over the longer than expected commute.

The house is beautifully furnished, clean, well stocked. The view from the porch is gorgeous, jacuzzi is very relaxing. Highly recommended.

I loved the at-home feel of the place. Big Sky felt like a home away from home with the beautiful decorations and furnishings, not to mention the tremendous billiards table. The layout of the home was great, I especially loved the wrap-around porch (and the hot tub was a great touch). Overall, the stay was excellent and I would love to come back another day!

The home was beautiful. Both the hot tub and jacuzzi bath were very relaxing. It was private and so quiet, and has great views as well. Plenty of space and things to do.

The home was gorgeous! It was roomy, comfortable, clean and came stocked with everything you could need (and more!). The views were absolutely breathtaking. To see Lake Lure from that perspective was amazing, not to mention the fall foliage. The hot tub was also a hit.

The size of home, the view, the large deck, the hot tub, fireplace and pool table. The beds and pillows were also very comfortable.

The house had lovely views! It was very clean, the kitchen was well stocked, beds were comfortable. It was nice that towels for the hot tub were included.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Big Sky Lodge is located in Old Fort. This home is approximately 30 minutes to Black Mountain and Marion, and approximately 45 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

This property offers a flexible cancellation policy that differs from the standard cancellation policy. The policy for this home is the moderate policy. The terms of the policy are as stated: Bookings canceled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive 100% refund. Bookings canceled at least 14 days before the start of the stay will receive 50% refund.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Big Sky Lodge is not “pet friendly”. Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Big Sky Lodge is located in a gated community. You must go to our Old Fort Office at 243 Catawba Ave S to pick up your gate card. Driving directions to our Old Fort Office, along with access instructions will be sent out via email. Once you have picked up your gate card, you can proceed to the house. Please do not rely on GPS. We will provide you with driving directions to Big Sky Lodge from our Old Fort Office. 

Big Sky Lodge has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Big Sky Lodge. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available
