Situated in the heart of downtown Black Mountain, the Swannanoa Valley Museum "preserves and interprets the social, cultural, and natural history of the Swannanoa Valley, a pathway to western North Carolina, by developing dynamic programs and engaging exhibitions for the education and enrichment of the community, its children, and future generations."
The museum mounts at least one major temporary exhibition annually in its first-floor gallery and continually enhances its second-floor permanent exhibit exploring the general history of the Swannanoa Valley. They also host many events throughout the year, including Trails Less Traveled, Walk Through History Series, Haunted History Tours of Downtown Black Mountain, and an annual Antique & Collectibles Sale.
Hours of Operation:
- March – December- Wednesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM
- January – February- Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM
Note: Admission cost is a suggested donation of $5.00. The first and second floors are accessible by ADA standards. A lift is available to take visitors to the second floor.
