The 2026 Valentine Greenway Challenge returns on Saturday, February 7, 2026. This year's challenge consists of a 5K & Kids Fun Run that will begin near the picnic pavilion at Lake Tomahawk and will cross Laurel Circle Drive before running a full loop around the front nine of the Black Mountain Golf Course. Note: If the bridges on the front nine have not been repaired in time, runners will use Ninth Street & Laurel Avenue, cross back over Laurel Circle Drive, and finish the race with another lap around Lake Tomahawk.
This year's race will raise money to replace the greenway bridge previously located along the Oaks Trail in Veterans Park. Fifty percent of the registration fees and all sponsorships will go towards this project!
- 1st Place Overall Male/Female: $150 Gift Card to Mountain Running Company
- 2nd Place Overall Male/Female: $100 Gift Card to Mountain Running Company
- 3rd Place Overall Male/Female: $50 Gift Card to Mountain Running Company
- Spirit Awards (for funkiest outfits) for Youth, Couple, Individual Male/Female: Gift Cards to Local Businesses
Note: Packet Pickup is from 4-6 PM on February 6 and from 8-9:45 AM on the day of at Lakeview Senior Center (401 Laurel Circle Drive in Black Mountain).
