At Fernledge, your group can embrace the charm and heritage of one of Montreat's original homes. Hidden in a copse of greenery and painted to match, Fernledge is a cool retreat, despite not having central air. Enjoy your mornings and evenings on the large front porch and patio area, taking in the mountain air while sipping a refreshing lemonade or iced coffee. This five-bedroom home has plenty of space for your group to spread out. With sinks in all the upstairs bedrooms and hall baths, Fernledge has some of that old-school charm. A five-minute walk to the heart of Montreat, the location is perfect whether you're attending a conference or just enjoying your time in the cove.

Pop down to Robert Lake Park, Montreat's award-winning playground and public space, to play a rousing match of tennis or rock hop in Flat Creek. While by Lake Susan, pop into Ten Thousand Villages and peruse the ethically sourced handcrafted goods or The Montreat Store for all your area-specific treasures. Montreat's trail system offers several hiking options from easy to strenuous and is within a 5-minute drive of the home. Climb Greybeard Mountain to achieve soaring views of the Montreat valley or the easy gate-to-lake trail Elizabeth's Path.

House Layout:
Main Level- kitchen, dining room, living room with wood stove, bedroom 1 with queen and ensuite bath.
Upper Level- bedroom 2 with a queen, bedroom 3 with twins, bedroom 4 with a king, bedroom 5 with twins, full hall bath.

Please Note: This home is pet-friendly with an additional fee. Linens (sheets and towels) are available for an additional fee. During the summer Montreat Conference Season - typically June through August - the home rents weekly. Mid-August through May the home has a minimum 3-night stay, and there is a 4-night minimum for holidays. The basement level is a small private apartment used by the owners from time to time. Any tenant of the main house will be notified if the basement is in use during their stay.

Great Montreat Home

Overall

Fernledge was very clean, close to the Montreat conference center, and had rooms with their own sinks. Bathrooms were nice and updated. Kitchen had plenty of cookware and dishes for a group. Lovely front porch with rockers and seating. Would definitely come back again!

I loved our visit here. Plenty of room for everyone. Spacious front porch where you could sit and enjoy the mountain breeze all day. Great location. Short walk to the playground. Great instructions, so you will know what to do and where everything is. As you pack up to leave, you will be planning your next trip here!

With two active grandchildren, Fernledge is the perfect location to the park and easy creek trails. We also enjoyed the paved driveway for toddler bikes and chaulk drawings. We will definitely rent Fernledge again.

Fernledge is a beautiful house perfectly situated in Montreat, NC (about a 20 min drive or less to Asheville). We had no problems getting to the house and very much enjoyed our stay. Greybeard was great, and even checked to make sure the house was warm during a freeze warning. All the info for driving, checking in, and checking out was provided and had no problems whatsoever with the instructions given. Would like to thank Greybeard and the owners of Fernledge for making our vacation easy and convenient!

A small youth group attended an event at the Montreat Conference Center for the week. The house worked out beautifully with great dining and living space and plenty of sleeping space. Two bathrooms is a bit tight when multiple teenagers are involved, but everything worked out great. Staying in the middle of July, we made use of the many fans throughout the house, including the attic fan to keep the house cool and didn't miss the a/c at all. Thank you for a wonderful week!

Perfect house for a writers' retreat -- peace and quiet, a wonderful front porch for hanging out. This is a 1917 historic home with enough modern upgrades to ensure comfort. Montreat provides a great backdrop and Asheville is a half-hour away.

Fernledge was the perfect getaway for our family! We spent a week here after Christmas and loved every second. The house was spacious, cozy, clean, and exactly what we were looking for. The location couldn't have been more perfect - close to walkways, parks, and a quick drive into Black Mountain. We loved the wood-burning fireplace and covered porch in the front. We enjoyed this home while we were in Montreat for a wedding on New Year's Eve. We were so glad to see that the home stayed warm in this cold period. The location, the carport, and ease of entry into the home added to our satisfaction. The dining room and living room are spacious enough for a number of guests, if needed. We would recommend this home and would stay there again.

This was a trip to Montreat for the College Student Conference. We had a wonderful time with our young people and Fernledge was absolutely the most perfect place we could have picked. Weather outside was cold and dreary but it was great to come home to a pleasant, warm, and inviting house.

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Fernledge is located in Montreat. This home is approximately 10 minutes to Black Mountain and 30 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Fernledge is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems, we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will pick up keys from our Black Mountain office, located at 204 East State Street. Keys will be available starting at 4:00 pm. If you are arriving after hours, you will receive instructions on how to access the safe on our front porch. There will be an envelope with your name and house name at the top. Your keys and driving directions will be inside the envelope.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit.

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Fernledge. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
