Description

Located in the private, gated community of Gateway Mountain, a 3,000 acre nature preserve, Big Sky Lodge provides ample space and convenient comforts to ensure the perfect getaway for family and friends. Close to all that Western North Carolina has to offer in way of attractions and activities, you can easily travel to town for entertainment or stay on the mountain to enjoy exclusive amenities. As a guest in this secluded and scenic community, you’ll have access to lush wooded forests, gorgeous waterfalls, and stunning mountaintop vistas along with two small lakes and a trout pond for catch-and-release fishing (no license required). This nature-filled haven is teeming with plantlife and wildlife that you can enjoy first hand at your leisure.

On the main level, you’ll find a large great room with floor to ceiling windows, a stone fireplace (please use Dura-flame logs only), a pool table, a dining room that seats 6, and a state-of-the-art kitchen with smooth surface stove, stainless steel refrigerator, large farmhouse sink, and additional table that seats 4. You’ll also find 2 bedrooms (full size beds) and a full hall bath.

Upstairs, you’ll find a charming loft area with seating that is perfect for taking afternoon naps or reading books from the built-in wall library. Just off from the loft, you’ll find the master bedroom (king size bed) and luxurious en suite bath that includes a jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower. Downstairs, you’ll find 2 additional bedrooms (1 queen size bed and 2 twin size beds), a full bath with walk-in shower only, a laundry room, and a spacious den with smart TV.

Big Sky Lodge is conveniently located on Old Fort’s Gateway Mountain just 7 miles from Interstate 40, placing it near the large city of Asheville (30 miles away) that is home to the famous Biltmore House and Mast General Store and the resort town of Black Mountain (15 miles away) that offers antique shops, boutiques, and delicious restaurants. It's also just 20 short minutes away from Marion, another quaint town with even more options for food and activity, while the beloved Catawba Falls trail is just 12 miles away.

A scenic 30 minute drive south takes you to Lake Lure, where there’s no shortage of family-fun activities. In addition to a swimming beach, there’s a water park, twilight dinner cruises, boat tours, and boat rentals (paddle and pontoon). After enjoying time by the water, head over to Chimney Rock, Mount Pisgah, or Mount Mitchell State Parks that are also nearby, or take advantage of the golf courses in one of the beautiful towns mentioned above. Continue south for another 45 minutes, and you’ll find the charming town of Hendersonville and the historic Flat Rock Playhouse.

Big Sky Lodge is in the perfect location to offer you privacy and serenity while still being close enough to neighboring towns to provide you with endless options for activities and adventures so you can enjoy the best of both worlds during your vacation.

Please note:
-You must only use Dura-flame logs (can be purchased at any grocery store)
in the living room fireplace.
-There is an exterior security camera in the driveway.
-The garage is not part of the rental.

During the colder winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snow plow operations are possible within the development. From December through March, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles. We also recommend travel insurance for those staying in the Gateway Mountain development during the winter months.

FAQ

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Big Sky Lodge is located in Old Fort. This home is approximately 30 minutes to Black Mountain and Marion, and approximately 45 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Big Sky Lodge is not “pet friendly”. Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Big Sky Lodge is located in a gated community. You must go to our Old Fort Office at 78 D Catawba Ave. to pick up your gate card. Driving directions to our Old Fort Office, along with access instructions will be sent out via email. Once you have picked up your gate card, you can proceed to the house. Please do not rely on GPS. We will provide you with driving directions to Big Sky Lodge from our Old Fort Office.

Big Sky Lodge has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit.

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Big Sky Lodge. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available

I loved the at-home feel of the place. Big Sky felt like a home away from home with the beautiful decorations and furnishings, not to mention the tremendous billiards table. The layout of the home was great, I especially loved the wrap-around porch (and the hot tub was a great touch). Overall, the stay was excellent and I would love to come back another day!

The home was beautiful. Both the hot tub and jacuzzi bath were very relaxing. It was private and so quiet, and has great views as well. Plenty of space and things to do.

The home was gorgeous! It was roomy, comfortable, clean and came stocked with everything you could need (and more!). The views were absolutely breathtaking. To see Lake Lure from that perspective was amazing, not to mention the fall foliage. The hot tub was also a hit.
