Due to the Covid-19 Crisis, Mountain Dance and Folk Festival will NOT be held live this year, but will be streamed online.
Snagging the title as one of the longest annual traditions in Asheville (since 1928), The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival is a true display of the Asheville area's cultural heritage. The event takes place every first weekend in August and is comprised of a host of mountain fiddlers, dulcimer sweepers, dancers, balladeers and sponsored by the Folk Heritage Committee.
The event's main stage is at Lipinsky Hall on the UNC-Asheville campus from August 6-8th, and the show goes from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each night. Tickets range from $12-$60.
Bascom Lamar Lunsford founded the festival with the intention of helping people share and understand the 'beauty and dignity of Southern Appalachian music and dance traditions' that have been passed down in WNC culture.
