Conveniently located in a residential area, near Lake Tomahawk and a short walk to the attractions of downtown Black Mountain, this beautiful Craftsman-style cottage is perfect for your mountain getaway. Offering three bedrooms and three bathrooms with 2000 sq. ft. of living, the open floor plan features a well-appointed kitchen with a gas range, dishwasher, and Drip-style coffee maker, and a great room with a stone gas logs fireplace. Enjoy dining on the spacious screened porch, or relax by the porch's wood-burning fireplace.

Recently updated, the home boasts a new heating and air system and a fenced yard. Cherokee Retreat is less than a block from Lake Tomahawk, which features a walking trail, playground, public swimming pool, tennis courts, and picnic areas. You'll also love the convenience of downtown Black Mountain, as you're less than a mile's walk to local shops and delicious restaurants. Asheville and the Biltmore Estate are also an easy 20-minute drive from the house.

HOUSE LAYOUT:
Main level: Great room with 42 " flat screen TV, game table, and gas logs; dining area with seating for 6; well-equipped kitchen with gas range; master bedroom with queen, TV, and full bath (shower only), queen bedroom; full hall bath with shower and tub.
Upper level: Bedroom with 2 double beds; full hall bath with shower and tub.
Outdoors: Wonderful screened porch with an outdoor fireplace and dining area for 6; fenced yard. 

Please Note: Linens are provided for your convenience. There is a minimum 3-night requirement with a discounted monthly rate for stays of 30 nights or more. Included with the monthly rent is a $100 monthly power allowance and a $50 monthly water allowance. Any overage is to be reimbursed by the tenant. Small dogs under 25 lbs are welcome with a pet fee. We're so sorry, but no cats due to allergies.

Everything was excellent (accommodations, correspondence). Family really enjoyed our time. The only disappointment we experienced was that the swimming pool was not to open until the 12th and that was not addressed in our info.

The house was ideal; spacious, cozy and the decor just added to its beauty. Our party used the big, screened in porch for dinners, morning coffee & relaxing in the evening. Each bedroom has its own, private bathroom and the location was perfect. We would all definitely stay here again. Black Mountain and Asheville are amazing places to visit and stay.

Cherokee Retreat is a beautiful property that can accommodate six people comfortably (we were only four). The screened porch with a real wood fireplace was delightful in the cooler evenings. The property is within a short distance from all the conveniences (gas station, grocery store, restaurants, shopping, highway, etc.) but it gives the feeling of being closer to nature and away from the daily hustle and bustle of more populated areas.

The house was great for our family, it was conveniently located to the town, you can walk there, it is a nice walk. We went to The Biltmore short 20 minute drive, very easy to get there.

This home is a great rental home. It has everything you need and much more. The screened in porch is a plus, when you are able to spend some time just relaxing and sitting on the porch and listening to the birds sing. Looks can be deceiving when you see the outside you think this could not be a spacious as it really is when you open the door and see the inside you are very surprised when you first arrive. We loved the fact that it is close to everything in Black Mountain and you have a lake very close by to walk around.

The home was more than I expected. I am more than pleased with the stay. My students enjoyed the individual rooms with separate bath. There was a washing and dryer, which we did not need. Everything was simply like having a home away from home. Shopping for food items is near by. The conference center was only minutes away. Trips to downtown took only a few minutes. It was great!!!!! Clean, comfortable bedding, heating no problem. I give everything about this home a 5, and will for sure seek to rent it again when the need arises.

We enjoyed this rental and always have rented with Graybeard Rentals. There were a few things that could be improved. One is the televisions in the house. Definitely need flat screens instead of the old style, must have been at least 30 years old. The living room tv was so snowy you couldn't even watch it. It would have been nice to have a flat screen on the wall on the back porch and in the living room. During the Fall we love to watch college football. This expense for tv's is not something that couldn't be gained in rental fee. Also some of the kitchen supplies should be upgraded. Overall the house worked out well, nice location, easy to get to town. Dogs next door were always barking but that's what you deal with in town.

We went to the Asheville area to celebrate my sister's 70th Birthday. What a great surprise the accommodations at Rhododendron Cottage were! This was really a shining star (and I was complimented many times for the \"find\")! This house is even prettier and much nicer than the photos show. The house is spacious and offers many different areas to gather in. The kitchen was well stocked, and we utilized the gas stove and cooktop as well as the dishwasher and the nice, large kitchen table. The only missing pieces in the kitchen that we noticed were ample hotpads and dish scrubbing supplies. We used the provided tablecloth and placemats and cloth napkins, a great idea on the owner's part. The living area is beautiful! We didn't use that fireplace, but we did light a fire in the fireplace located in the screened porch. That area was also very accommodating for our group! S'mores would've been fun.... The bedrooms and bathrooms worked out well for us all, but keep in mind the upstairs bedroom is better suited for kids than adults. It's such a lovely, well built, and obviously well loved home! The location was perfectly situated between Black Mountain's downtown and the nearby lake. We took many a walk around the lake and surrounding neighborhood, it's just so beautiful and serene. We would love to come back there, perhaps for the next \"big\" birthday!

It was great! Loved the property , especially the fireplace on the screened porch. The people in the Greybeard office were very helpful with things to do. We especially loved the Sandy Bottom Trail Rides - the Ball family was very nice and the ride was beautiful. Our grandchildren loved it. Thank you.

We rented Rhododendron Cottage for a week, there were five adults and all agreed that the cottage was one of the best locations we had ever had. Will probably go back in the future. Loved it.

We really liked the Rhododendrum Cottage. It accommodated our family very nicely. It was a nice place to \"come home to\" during our visit to the area. The screened in porch was very relaxing. Only negative was the cable and tv...the tv system really needs an upgrade.

Great Family Mountain Getaway

We had a wonderful time at our week-long stay at Rhododendron Cottage. Four adults and two kids (preschool and toddler) fit without feeling on top of each other. The screened-in porch gave us a great extra space for our one rainy day, and a place for the grownups when the kids slept. It was an easy walk to Tomahawk Lake trail, playground and pool, and a quick drive to everywhere else. Downtown Black Mountain was charming and had lots to offer in food and shops. The quick 20-min drive to Asheville was convenient and gave us 'bigger city' options for fun. We'll be back!

Beautiful home! Clean, comfortable. Quiet. Fully equipped kitchen. Rental agency was friendly, helpful and responsive to our needs. As a very nice touch, the rental agency left us a yummy pumpkin bread from a local bakery. There is a gas fireplace in the living room, but we couldn't figure out how to use it and were hesitant to fiddle with the gas lines. However, there is a wood burning fireplace outside on the screened in (very large) porch that was wonderful! Campfire wood was provided for our use and we simply collected some kindling pieces from the woods surrounding the home. Beds were very comfortable, especially the two full beds on the second floor. Having 3 bathrooms for 3 women was a great treat! Excellent location!
The town of Black Mountain itself has lots of unique shops and galleries. The corner hardware store, Town Hardware and General Store, with it's creaky wooden floors was a great place to visit - lots of nostalgia - sort of like a VT Country store catalog! The Merry Wine Market was another favorite stop as was the Mountain Nest Gallery. Be sure to stop at Kilwin's for some amazing ice cream! Be aware that many shops and restaurants are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Check before heading out.
We tried the Trailhead Restaurant and the Dark City Deli and were not disappointed. The food was freshly prepared, creative and delicious. Both places also provided a great selection of local craft beers.
Lake Tomahawk is just down the street from the cottage and provides a half mile loop trail. It's a great place to walk and enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains.
Asheville is about a 20 minute ride on I-40.
We were advised that our GPS might not work in the mountains but we had no problem at all.
We'd love to return here next year for another visit!

We loved the house. Easy walking distance to town and restaurants. The house is great, plenty of room and bathrooms for each bedroom, especially nice for a girls' weekend. We would stay there again. Dogs next door are a nuisance

We had a great time at this cottage. The house is beautiful and spacious. We had a total of 6 women over the weekend and everyone felt that they had more than enough room. The linens and beds were very nice and all of the rooms felt clean and crisp. The kitchen was stocked with supplies previous guests may have left which was helpful in surprising ways. We were greeted with fresh locally baked bread and toiletry items left by the host which provided a thoughtful and sweet welcome.

We arrived just hours before the snow storm. What a wonderful place to be snowed in...but actually we weren't! It's so close to Lake Tomahawk and to downtown Black Mountain, you can walk there and enjoy the beauty, even in the snow. The home is cozy, but certainly not small! The kitchen is well equipped with most everything you need. A gas stove!!! And a gas fireplace in the great room. A wood burning fireplace on the screened in porch, which we had hoped to use, but didn't. We enjoyed our stay immensely, despite the weather! Oh, one more thing. The big chair with ottoman by the tall windows in the great room is the perfect place to read early in the morning with a cup of hot coffee and a fire in the fireplace!

Great location for our family Christmas gathering.
Had all the amenities of Home. Loved the Fireplaces both in living area and on the beautiful porch. We enjoyed it Christmas Eve in 60 degree weather!
Home was in great condition and offered more than enough room for our whole family. Price was reasonable and location was convenient to both Black Mountain and Asheville. Will defintely consider it for a future stay.

The rental experience was easy & positive. Both check in & check out was equally as positive & easy. The cottage layout was perfect for our family of 5. The woodburning fireplace on the screened in backporch was a fun experience. Black Mountain is a good, central location to visit & branch out to other mountain attractions.

Terrific! I will definitely use Greybeard next time. We were all pleasantly pleased with the cottage size, layout, furnishings and location. It was clean and I feel they went over and above with the pumpkin bread loaf.

We stayed a week and enjoyed every minute away from the heat and humidity of Florida! We had a chance to see the Christmas display at Biltmore Estate and it was lovely. The plants in the gardens were gone for the Fall, so that was a disappointment. We should have come one week earlier for peak leaf color.
This is the second time we have stayed in this Greybeard rental, and the staff is wonderful. We highly recommend Greybeard for anyone looking for a rental in the Black Mountain area. We are looking forward to our month long stay in August 2016. Thank you Renda for making our vacation so enjoyable!

We saw this home last summer and immediately reserved it for our 2 week stay this year. What a wonderful, relaxing, vacation it was! This home is so inviting. The warm wood floors, the stone fireplace, big comfortable sofas, a cozy chair in the window alcove for reading in the evenings or watching the rain fall through the trees. When we come back in November, we will enjoy eating by the wood burning fire out on the screened porch in the cooler night air. The beds are very comfortable, plenty of linens and towels. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and the rental staff leaves fresh pumpkin bread to welcome you. We enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. But next summer we will be back for an entire month, and have a long list of places to go (My Fathers Pizza for great Italian food after a long ride on the Blue Ridge) and things to see (Arboretum, Tobacco Barn, Biltmore at Candlelight) as this house is so centrally located. The Greybeard staff is top-notch at customer service, thank you Renda! And a heartfelt 'thank you' to the owners for sharing their wonderful home in the woods at Lake Tomahawk!

Three of us have been going to Black Mountain for 12 years. This was the first stay at Rhododendron Cottage. It was perfect. We each had our own bedroom and bath. Den was very cozy for conversation and we loved it .

It was a cool evening when we arrived and when I entered and turned on the lights I was hit with a warmth from the heat and a warmth from the cottage itself. It was so comfortable and inviting. We all fell in love with it instantly! Everything was perfect! Nuff said.

This charming cottage was a perfect fit for my family. The interior was tastefully decorated, kitchen was beautifully equipped, bedrooms all had comfortable mattresses, the screened in porch with fireplace was a great place to gather around in the evenings and the location was close enough to everything we wanted to do. Wish we could live here year round!

Four girlfriends that have been traveling together for the last 25 years found this wonderful rental house in Black Mountain. It was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well supplied with any kitchenware you might possibly need. Bring your own spices and condiments though.
We enjoyed a fire on the wonderful screened in porch since it was a little chilly while we where there and there is a nice gas fireplace in the living room for enjoying while indoors.
We would highly recommend Rhododendren Cottage to anyone traveling to the Black Mountain area.

We have stayed here in previous years and each year we feel that this home is like a home away from home. The location is well located and the home has been clean each time we have stayed. The house looks small from the outside but when you first walk in you realize that is not the case. Also we love the enclosed porch and was able to enjoy just sitting there and reading a book while listening to the birds sing. We also enjoyed a nice walk on the lake. We went to the Red Rocker Restaurant this year and the service and food was wonderful there also.

Overall, we were very pleased. Room for improvement follows:

1. There was no cupboard space in kitchen available for us to store our food. Many were filled with what we assumed was owner's food. Many drawers in bathrooms also contained what we assumed belonged to owners, leaving little/less space for us to \"settle in\". Upstairs bathroom had no room at all in cupboard.

2. Upon arrival there were only 2 bath towels for upstairs (no washcloths or hand towels). We did locate what we needed in downstairs bedroom closet. Some of the washcloths and handtowels appeared dirty/stained. We washed/bleached them and they came out nice.

3. Front main floor bedroom was very hot. A ceiling and/or free standing fan would make a big difference.

We enjoyed our stay so much! It is an adorable cottage with lots of comfort to boot! There were 5 of us, 2 couples and myself. We all had our own rooms and bath. The screened porch was wonderful as well. We are already planning our return stay!!

Rhododendron cottage is located in a very pretty neighborhood, just a short walk from Lake Tomahawk which I enjoyed walking around, even in the rain. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and spacious. What really drew me to this cottage was the 2 full size sofas, plus the chair with foot rest in the living room. The master bedroom bed was very comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. The only thing that was lacking was an ironing board. The cottage had an iron but I searched the whole cottage and could not find a board, which actually gave me a great excuse to walk around a little wrinkly!

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Cherokee Retreat is located in Black Mountain. This home is less than 5 minutes to downtown Black Mountain and 20 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Cherokee Retreat is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Cherokee Retreat has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE? WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

Gas logs are not in operation May through September due to the warmer summer months. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Cherokee Retreat. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
