Round Knob Lodge evokes memories of a generation past. It is a very secluded property with modern amenities that allow you to host a business retreat, family gathering or outdoor wedding. Built by Southern Railway executives in the early 1930's as a retreat, it has been expanded and remodeled to provide modern conveniences and safety while maintaining the relaxed feel of a rustic retreat. It is situated on 20 acres with a trout creek running through the property. Train enthusiasts will enjoy the many antique railroad items displayed throughout the lodge. The main level has a Great Room with a magnificent fireplace and plenty of space to spread out. This large room and adjacent deck each have approximately 1000 square feet. These spaces provide great flexibility for gatherings. A newly remodeled kitchen provides modern facilities for feeding groups. There is seating capacity for over 25 people. The Game Room is directly below the Great Room and is accessed by a wonderful spiral staircase. It has a pool table, foosball table, dart board, large card/game table, a widescreen 60 inch TV and a great bar with ice machine. There are 6 bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths. The main floor has three bedrooms: ~ Master's Suite has a king bed and full bath across the hall ~Captain's Quarters has a king bed and attached Jack & Jill full bath that is shared with the First Mates' Cabin ~First Mates' Cabin has two single beds. The lower level has three bedrooms: ~Charleston Room has a queen bed and attached full bath ~Tackle Box Room has a queen bed and attached full bath that is shared with the Bunk Room ~Bunk House Bedroom has 5 twin beds There is an additional split full bath (shower behind one door and toilet/sink behind an adjacent door) off the lower hall. There is an elevator to assist in moving between the two levels. The views of the nearby mountains and the ponds on the property are amazing from Round Knob Lodge and 'The Overlook' above the creek (stair access from the parking lot). The two ponds are stocked with trout and bass. There is also a level area adjacent to the ponds and creek that is perfect for an outdoor gathering. Power is available in this area. Wireless internet is available throughout the Lodge. A sound system is available to play music from an iPod, CD or the radio. Speakers are located in both the Great Room and the Game Room. Please note: sheets and towels ARE provided for your convenience. This beautiful estate is an easy 40 minute drive from downtown Asheville and a short 15 minute drive to Black Mountain. Come enjoy!! The Apple Cupboard Cottage derives its name from a Nineteenth Century apple wood cupboard adorning the dining room. It is the center piece of an eclectic collection of furnishings and decorations which combine in understated elegance. Though traditional in furnishings, the Apple Cupboard Cottage has state-of-art conveniences and entertainment offerings including 37-inch LCD HD TVs with internal DVD players in both the main floor master bedroom and the second floor den. Additionally, there is a 26-inch LDC HD TV nestled unobtrusively in a bookcase in the living room for times when guests would like to catch the news during breakfast or before dinner. Wireless-broadband internet is also provided for the vacationer who wants to stay connected. An iPOD player/radio is located in entry hall off the living room. The master bedroom suite with king bed is on the main level. The master suite has a walk-in closet, bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, and separate walk-in shower. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are also on the main level along with a powder room/half bath for convenience when entertaining. A large porch opens off the dining room and is an ideal spot for coffee or tea while greeting passing neighbors. The two guest bedrooms (queen beds) are on the second floor along with the den, one full and one half bathrooms. The second floor den opens onto a deck which is ideal for watching the sun set over the western ridge, the nighttime sky come alive with stars, and the surrounding mountains sparkle with lights.
